One Day at a Time by John Belt

By John Belt
Don't forfeit today on the altar of tomorrow. Psalm 118:24 "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Jesus really wants us to learn to live one day at a time. It is so easy to get ahead of schedule. Human nature likes to jump and skip over things to get where it perceives that it needs to go faster. Have you ever done that? I can remember as a little kid that "taking cuts" was pretty common when we were in line at the school. We need to learn to enjoy and maximize the moment that we are in. Every day has enough trouble of it's own. There is no point is trying to get ahead of things, being anxious. Anxiety and worry choke out the power of God's Word for our lives. Hear the wisdom of Jesus.

Don't forfeit today on the altar of tomorrow.

Psalm 118:24 "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Jesus really wants us to learn to live one day at a time.

Matthew 6:33-34 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you. Therefore, take no thought about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take thought about the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is the trouble thereof."

An Open Door

The foundation for our lives is found in in our relationship with God.  Right now He wants to be with you where you are. How great it is that the door is ALWAYS open for us. Even better, He actually stands at our door and knocks! How amazing that He is the Initiator of our relationship with Him. He loves us that much.

Revelation 3:12 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."

He does not condemn His own people, but rather is always trying to pull them close because He knows what is best for us. Don't ever buy into the lie that He will reject you. He does look for honesty, confession, change of heart and your desire to be with Him. When all that is in place He is full of love, acceptance and will give His wisdom to you when you ask without finding fault. God is good and wants you to know it in your own life. (James 1:5)

Find His Fragrance

Song of Songs 2:1 "I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys."

Take some time to slow down and "smell the Rose of Sharon." Get in His Presence and enjoy His fragrance. Seek the Lord first. God has powerful promises with great intrinsic value for our lives. When we spend time with Him we begin to smell different - taking on His fragrance. Be filled with all the attributes of Who He is. There is so much spiritual counterfeit and hype in the Body of Christ that does not have His fragrance. Get to know Him. He is what is important.

Meditate on His Promises

2 Peter 1:4 "...by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

He calls us to partake of His divine nature through these promises that can only be realized as we faithfully seek Him as our Source of life and sustenance. Treasure His words and let Him teach you His ways and nature as you are being filled with thankfulness in worship. Turn your thoughts over to Him and receive His incomprehensible peace into your life.
