There are many types of prayer that we can engage in, whether it be intercession, petitions or just praying in the Holy Spirit. (1 Thess. 1:2, 1 Tim. 2:1) The most primary and necessary form of prayer is our devotional prayer life. This type of prayer has no agenda except to spend time with God, interacting in His Presence. The last verse in 2 Corinthians reveals a key in the life of Paul as it states, "Let the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all." 2 Corinthians 13:14 "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen."

The most powerful thing we can learn to do as believers is to simply live in a communion with the Holy Spirit. In this place we worship God, pray in the spirit and hearing Him speak back to us words of affirmation and encouragement of our identity in Christ. This is the place where the Father's love is poured into us in the deepest part of our heart. It is really a "comm-union" or a "common union" where we discover and more fully realize the oneness that we have with Him.
John 14:17-18 "...the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you."
Adopted into His Family
He does not leave us as orphans but has adopted us into His family through the Spirit of Adoption, the Holy Spirit. Communal prayer is where depth is created in our relationship with God verses a life of superficiality or living by a list. This is where God writes His commandments in our hearts, where we begin to live from the inside out.
Hebrews 8:10 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."
God has created us to live with a "flow of life" that is like a river, rather than being mechanical like robots. Living in communion with the Spirit enables us to live in the reality of these eternal rivers of water that Jesus said would burst out from within us.
John 7:37-39 "On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.' But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified."

Have you ever struggled to live for God? To be a living sacrifice? Even to just do the things that please Him? Typically, the issue lies in the focus and "the means" of how that is to happen. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1 It is through tending to our relationship with God, our communion with the Spirit and focus on the Lord that we are transformed and able to live after His desires. It's all about the relationship.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out. Leviticus 6:12-13 Recently I had a dream encounter where the Lord spoke to me that there is a greater need for more "fire on the altar." In this it was apparent that there was a need for prayer to permeate and infiltrate the atmosphere of the region. I could literally sense that the atmosphere was not what it needed to be - more prayer was needed.
