11 Ancient Apostolic Scribal Functions That Have Always Remained in the Earth by Theresa Harvard Johnson

By Theresa Harvard Johnson
The Lord identified eleven, ancient apostolic scribal functions to me through a dream several weeks ago that are still thriving in the earth today. These functions have been with us since before the first government of the congregation was established in Numbers 11. We can see them clearly as we study certain scribal patterns throughout the Bible and bring them into a modern day focus. In sharing these, I pray that you are empowered in comprehending the depth of the Office of the Scribe in the earth, and perhaps your role in it.

  1. God releases scribes to protect the work of "critical, forerunning" apostolic voices within a generation (be it digital or print) whose contributions have global influence and impact.
  1. He raises up scribes to build archival systems to protect critical dispensational truths in the Kingdom within every generation. The systems preserve critical prophesies and other documentation that stand as a witness to God's Word.
  1. He raises up scribes to develop and/or employ methods of preservation to ensure that He is remembered in many different ways, by numerous means throughout the generations. We see new songs, publications, visual presentations, etc. that capture clear doctrinal truths that are unchanging.
  1. He raises up scribes with academic minds (critical thinkers, analytical thinkers, philosophical and historical thinkers, sages, etc.) who recognize, document, interpret and translate critical scribal activity, historical evidence, archival finds and spiritual realities that non-academic minds might miss. (It is because of them that we have such meticulous bible outlines, timelines, lifelines, genealogies, etc. to complement our biblical texts and prove the Gospel.)
  1. He raises up scribes to verify and/or authenticate critical KINGDOM documentation and evidence in the earth, ensuring that as much of the history and supernatural phenomena in the Kingdom as possible can be authenticated in its authorship and differentiated from forgeries.
  1. He raises up the voice of the scribe for the purpose of promoting "remembrance" and "making memorials to the Lord." Despite the rising of false voices, authenticity of the scripture is never lost.
  1. He places a fanatical zeal in the hearts of some scribes to dedicate their lives organizing and making available the life work of pioneering apostolic voices (whether living or dead) after the pattern of Solomon, David, the Gospel writers, etc. They ensure that critical historical voices are a part of the educational system of the congregation in the earth.
  1. He raises up recorders to link Biblical prophecy or make general prophetic connections from the past to the present for the purpose of revealing Christ. He makes sure that these prophetic scribal types exist in every generation and are active in their efforts.
  1. He raises up scribes to research and interpret scripture (apologetics, expository works, etc.) for the sole purpose of combatting lies and purporting heresies within the faith. It is not unusual for certain scribes (tempered in a love for God and the compassion of Christ) to root out and identify present day judaizers, Cretans and false apostles for the purpose of protecting the integrity of God's Word and His people.
  1. He raises up prophetic scribes to accurately document the WORK of Holy Spirit in the earth, specifically as it relates to apostolic ministry. These works often meticulously document miracles, signs and wonders globally through revivals and/or other prophetic encounters in the same as Luke scribed the day of Pentecost.
  1. He raises up prophetic scribes in the earth to honor forerunners in specific generations - chronicling their lives, ministries and documenting their impact in the Kingdom and in the earth... just as he has done from Moses to Christ. God always ensures that there is a human connection. The remembrance of the woman with the alabaster jar is an excellent example of this.
Evidence of These Functions Can Be Seen In:
  1. Biblical preservation efforts (concern for accurate translation of canonized scriptures in light of languages).
  1. Historical and literary preservation efforts that prove the authenticity of scripture (archaeology, dead sea scrolls, genealogy, chronological history, etc.)
  1. Extreme interest in authentic, objective and accurate biographical data from the life, work and ministry of philosophers and forerunners like E.M. Bounds, Wigglesworth, etc. similar to the keeping of the records of the kings, prophets, etc. in scripture)
