A Spirit of Slumber by Pam Clark

By Pam Clark
Have any of you felt sleepy a lot lately? I have been and I have blamed it on many different things, like health issues, and finally started praying about it in a serious way, rebuking it, and the Lord led me to an old article I wrote on the "spirit of slumber." In the article, it talked about believing in "words" that you had to "wait for." All these "words" talk about all the "good things" that are coming to you, just wait, confess and believe, like that is all that was required. Well, many of these words never come to pass and you feel guilty for "doubting" but it was a fake promise! They only shared part of the story and generalized it in such a way that it made it appear it was for anyone and everyone.

Have any of you felt sleepy a lot lately? I have been and I have blamed it on many different things, like health issues, and finally started praying about it in a serious way, rebuking it, and the Lord led me to an old article I wrote on the "spirit of slumber."

In the article, it talked about believing in "words" that you had to "wait for." All these "words" talk about all the "good things" that are coming to you, just wait, confess and believe, like that is all that was required.

Well, many of these words never come to pass and you feel guilty for "doubting" but it was a fake promise! They only shared part of the story and generalized it in such a way that it made it appear it was for anyone and everyone. No foundation was laid, no requirements were given, and not every word has "a requirement" but faith is required - and the true will come to pass!

I have seen an uptick in these kinds of posts again and who doesn't want to be "in the flow of the blessings?" But there IS a soul requirement to be in the will of God. It's not just "a vote." It is a relationship requirement, for interactivity, a back and forth relationship of conversation with your soul and God.

But many times, this "soothing" voice comes (a false pastoral voice) and it can even feel like a relief from the battle. "Just trust little one, all is well," and nothing is required on your part (like being right before God). Now the opposite of that would be the sledgehammer and that is not right either, but is just as wrong in the opposite way, that heavy legalism with all these "rules and regulations."

Dealing with this is for the wise and the prophetic! Like a sheep dog will come around to nip the sheep back into the fold, the true shepherds will come around and nudge the flock back into place. The Body is fluid and when it moves, it is not always a straight line, but there are borders and a path!

The True Work of the Ministry

And that is the true work of the ministry - to point people to THE LORD. Our lives are to be an interaction with Him so that we will grow and learn and even inquire! If there is nothing to be gained, then why do we even need the House (and Family) of the Lord?

"Oh, it's okay little one. You didn't do anything wrong. Forgive yourself and come into His rest. You are so loved by Him. Come over here and take a nap. You just rest. I will take care of the enemy outside...just trust that only good is coming to you, sweet rest little one...I am in charge and I will take care of you..." and that is a total lie! Where is the glory going? We are called to an interactive relationship with Him where everyone does their part!

I understand the pain of when a promise seems broken. I understand when you thought it was good or was going to be good and just and fair and it did not turn out that way. I understand when they say "all is okay" and all is not!

How many times have we heard "the formulas" where they say just do this, like give or serve, and it will all be taken care of, God is appeased, "I" will take care of it for you? Are you a part of something or is it just about man?

Faith is being bartered and sold! Wake up precious Church!!! God wants to speak to YOU! He wants to speak to everyone individually.  You can't ride on just "the group."  Don't idol worship the prophets or the ministers.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6
