Your Words Matter by Brian Turner

By Brian Turner
Your words matter. They are one of the most important aspects of your life. They are an important characteristic of your life because they reveal who you are. Unlike any other thing in your life your words come from the depths of your essence. You will speak what is on the inside of yourself. This is a fact you cannot hide. You will speak from who you are. This is why your words really do matter. What is on the inside of you? Is there life? Or is there death? Listen to your words, and you will know. Do you believe in yourself? Or do you doubt yourself? The world will know through the words you speak. You can try to deceive, but eventually, your words will reveal the truth about you. There is no way around this reality.

I grew up hearing a story about a woman, which illustrates this truth. One day, the woman and her brother-in-law began arguing. During the argument, the woman said, "I wish you were dead." At work the next day, the brother-in-law had an accident while driving a company truck. The truck would not stop, and he jumped from the truck. After jumping, the truck trailer rolled over on him and killed him. For some time after, the woman was haunted by her words.

This woman spoke what was on the inside of her. Now, these words may not have come out of her at any other time, but at that moment, these words were within her, and she spoke them. Her words were directly connected to her character at that precise moment in time. In a very real way, she spoke her mind, and her words brought what was within her to the outside. This is the power of words.

Words have a way of fructifying. Words are like arrows, which hit their mark every time. Once released, you cannot bring them back. Even if you realize you should not have said them. You cannot grab them in midair and pull them back. They will continue until they reach their mark. This is a fact of living in the world. It does not matter if you believe this truth or not. Words will bring forth the reality of which they speak.

Can These Bones Live?

There is a story in Ezekiel 37 about the prophet Ezekiel having a vision. In the vision, Ezekiel saw a valley of dry bones. Holy Spirit asked Ezekiel, "Can these bones live?" Ezekiel answered, "Only you know, Lord." Holy Spirit told Ezekiel to prophesy life over the bones. When Ezekiel prophesied as he was commanded, the bones received the breath of life. Sinew, muscle, and flesh covered the bones, and they stood to their feet. The words of Ezekiel brought life to these dry bones.

This story is an example of how words can bring life. Just like words can bring death, they can also bring life (Proverbs 18:21). There is power of life and death in the words you speak. Like Ezekiel, when you are faced with death, you can speak life and receive life. This is such a powerful truth. Your words matter.

Just think about this for a moment. What are you being faced with right now. What are your dry bones? Unemployment? Divorce? Bankruptcy? Debt? Illness? Foreclosure? Are your dry bones something more psychological? Low self-esteem? Depression? Anxiety? Worry? Unforgiveness? Or bitterness?

You do not have to accept any of these as your reality. You can change your reality through your words. You can say, "Unemployment. You are only temporary. Employment is coming to me. I call employment into existence." By speaking this way, you will become a magnet to receive a job at just the right time. Or you could say, "Low self-esteem. I am not listening to your voice today. I am confident. I am bold. I have no reason to feel inferior." As you talk these positive words, you will feel yourself becoming encouraged, and you will know confidence from within.

I know a young man who was always down on himself. He never said a kind word about anything he did. No matter what he did he was constantly criticizing his work. Nothing seemed to ever be good enough. The result is that he never experienced the success he desired. This young man thought he did not deserve anything good in his life.

Then one day he had an epiphany. He realized his only problem was his words. Of course, his negative words were due to his negative thoughts. Whenever he noticed his negative thoughts, he began to speak positive words. He would say, "I do deserve better. Good things come to me. I am a magnet for success." After following this practice for several months, not only did his thoughts about himself become more positive, but the young man also began to attract success and good things into his life. He finally gained the self-confidence he wanted, and his life transformed for the better. This young man learned that his words really matter.

Being Conscious

You speak what is on the inside of you, whether life or death, but you can change what's on the inside. You can change what is on the inside of you by purposely changing your words. This means you must be conscious of what you are speaking. Often, you are not consciously speaking. You are on autopilot, and you speak unconsciously. When you speak unconsciously, you are speaking from your programming. Speaking from your programming is speaking from what is on the inside. Luckily, you can change your programming. You can change your programming by being conscious of your words. Then your essence from which you speak is transformed, and you will talk differently.

When you wake in the morning say, "Today I choose joy." Tell yourself, "No matter what comes my way, I choose happiness over grumpiness." "If my boss is a jerk, I choose joy." "If my co-workers are angry, I choose happiness." "If my clients are having a bad day and take it out on me, I choose to speak with kindness and return gentleness." Determine to say, "I am not a victim of people's behavior toward me. I am not a slave to my programming. I choose to live consciously. Living consciously is a conscious choice, and I will not live on autopilot."

You can live this way because you can choose the words you speak. Sure, you may feel negative words arising within you, but you do not have to say them. You are your own captain. You have the power to take control and use your tongue wisely. "We all make mistakes often, but those who don't make mistakes with their words have reached full maturity. Like a bridled horse, they can control themselves entirely" (James 3:2). Be a person of full maturity, use your words wisely. Use them to create the relationships and life you desire.

If you say negative things, negative things will enter your life. If you speak positively, positive things will enter your life. This is a basic truth of life. Your words do not care who you are. You can be rich or poor. You can be male or female, British or African. Your words do not discriminate. They are not prejudice or racist. Your words will bring forth what is spoken every single time. You can bank on this reality.

Speak what You want to Create

Words also compound themselves. The more negatively you speak the more negative your programming. The result is more negativity in your life. The more positively you speak the more positive your programming. The result is more positivity in your life. It is up to you. Since you are a conscious being, you can choose to speak what you want to create. Do you want only negative? Or do you want positive? Choose this day death or life (Deuteronomy 30:19).

Do you want health? Then say, "I am health." Do you want to be whole? Then say, "I am whole. I am complete." Do you want to be wealthy? Then say, "I am wealth." Do you want to be successful? Then say, "I am successful." These words will go forth from your mouth and produce what is spoken. They will do this every single time. Keep speaking positively, and you will live more positively. Speak what you desire to create. Your words matter. Never doubt this truth.

Some are under the misconception that speaking positively is deception. They think that saying, "I am wealth," while there is no physical evidence, is lying. This misconception is a misunderstanding of the power of speaking positively.  You are motivated to change your current situation by first accepting the circumstance needs to change. To make the change, you must change your words to match the situation you desire to bring into reality.

Every invention has been brought into existence in the same way. At one time, there were no smartphones. To bring smartphones into existence, a way of speaking about them had to be formulated as well. It is interesting that the vocabulary for smartphones was created as the idea for smartphones was being developed. If there had been no way to talk about smartphones, smartphones would have never been created. The very language of talking about smartphones facilitated the invention of smartphones. Words really do matter, whether we are talking about life in general or a specific technological invention.

To say, "I am wealth," in the face of lack is creating the possibility of abundance. If you talk about your lack, the more lack you will experience. If you change your words to that of abundance, the more abundance you will experience.

If you want to increase your knowledge, you can get an education, but you can only get an education if you start talking education. You will never seek to further your education if you do not start talking about education. You will never enroll in college if you do not start talking college. Speaking and talking education leads you to greater opportunities of getting an education. Your actions to seek education are fueled by your speaking of education.

Whether you are talking about health, wealth, or success, the principle is the same. To change your current reality, you must change your words. As you change your speech, you will change your programming, which reinforces your words. As your words are continually positive, you create new possibilities and worlds for yourself. This is not a matter of belief. It is a matter of fact. You only need to investigate your experience to know this truth to be real.

"Let there be light," were words spoken into darkness. They were words, which were opposed to the reality in which they were spoken. These four words were spoken so the current situation could be changed. The Divine was not denying the existence of darkness when the words were spoken. Holy Spirit was only speaking into existence what was not there until spoken. The Source of all things "calls things that don't exist into existence" (Romans 4:17). This is not denying the current circumstance. It is creating new ones. Let me say it again, "Your words really do matter."

Words Change Lives

Mark 10 gives us a wonderful story of the power of words. Jesus asked blind Bartimaeus, "What do you want me to do for you?" Bartimaeus answered, "Teacher, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go, your faith has healed you." Blind Bartimaeus was instantly able to see, and he began to follow Jesus on the way.

Four simple words changed the life of Bartimaeus, "I want to see." These words were an expression of his faith, and Jesus said it was his faith that healed him. Faith is the proof of what you do not see (Hebrews 11:1). Your words are proof of your faith, and your words have the power to create a brand-new world for you. You can speak what you do not see into your current situation, and you can expect in faith for your circumstance to change by the power of your words. Why? Because your words matter.

In the story of blind Bartimaeus, there is a very important principle. That principle is faith. Faith produces the words you speak into your situation to create a new one. Your words are the product of your faith or lack of faith, but your words also reinforce your faith. The more words of faith you speak the more your faith is increased. Faith and your words go together.

When you speak into your circumstance, have faith that your words will not return void. Know that what you speak will bring about the intended result. As you do this, your faith will increase insuring your situation will change.

"Faith comes from listening, but it is listening by means of Christ's message" (Romans 10:17).What is Christ's message? Christ's message says you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). You are the light of the world because you contain the Light. You can let your light shine before the world through your actions, and your speech is an action. This is a fact, which is often ignored. You can change yourself through your words and be a light to the world all at once. In this way, your light shines for all the world to see, and you become an example to all. Words truly have power, and words matter more than we could ever imagine.

Just like Jesus asked Bartimaeus what he wanted, the Universe is asking the same of you. What do you want the Universe to do for you? Speak it. Tell the Universe what you want. Like Bartimaeus, you could say, "I want to see." Or you could say, "I want to be healed." Maybe your request is, "I want financial stability." Whatever it is, you can speak it to the Universe, and the Universe will bring it into existence. Speak it, talk it, converse about it. The Universe is listening and will answer your request.

Your desire also empowers your words. Every time you speak, you speak with a specific emotion underlying your words. The strength of your emotion will determine the effectiveness of your words. The woman who said, "I wish you were dead," spoke out of anger, but that anger was expressed with an intense desire. Her words became reality because her words were accompanied by desire. Yes, it was a negative desire, but it was intense. When you speak into your reality, you must also feel the reality you are wanting to create. The more intensely you can feel what you want to create the more effective your words will create what you desire.

When you say, "I am wealth," feel this reality. Do not just say the words. Have faith your words will create the reality you want. Then feel intensely the reality you want. The more real your desire feels the more effective your faith and your words. When this formula is followed, the more assured you are to create the life you desire. Your words matter, but the emotional state in which you say them matters as well.

Produce the reality you want by speaking what you want, having faith your words will produce what you desire, and intensely feel whatever it is you desire. There is more in you than you are currently manifesting. Your words will bring out what is within. It is all up to you.
