The Value of Apostolic Sonship (Part 2)
Your sons will build a house for you
by Russell Durose

We must follow off where I started yesterday concerning the Double Portion. We must see that the ones WHO SAW the Spirit on Elisha, gathered around him...became "his sons..." They got the idea of building a house for him and the whole prophetic company. The Lord once spoke to me concerning this, saying that our ministry must become relational and generational...in that there must produce of like kind, going back to Genesis, what God creates created after its own kind, reproduced after its own characteristic..birthed out of each... In the 2nd day Church paradigm, which is the current one, does not operate on relationship so much as in programmes and meetings. It is not generational, in the sense that the only generational structure we see is the Sunday School, youth group. The transition from baby class, up to the adult church is made by longevity and age. It is not really by spiritual transitions of any sort.

I examined myself today, being a teacher of the Word, we must be zealous to present principles that are Biblical and sound. I began to see how God designed physical reproduction to be an opportunity to pass down a spiritual advantage, heritage, and even in the fall, in the fall of man, consequences being death, God made death an opportunity to transfer the blessing, the covenant from one generation to another. I saw a thread in all the Word, the passing down of inheritances in spiritual places...some gaps there...

Let us examine...Abraham to Joseph, Moses to Joshua, Samuel to David, David to Solomon, from Elijah to Elisha, from Zacarias to John, from Christ to the Church...how we see Jacob gather the sons...prophesying over each one...it is this which God wants to restore in the Church, through the apostle. The apostle must come to restore continuity through covenant. Many love the title, have no idea what is the responsibility. Apostleship is FATHERING. The test of an apostle is found in examining the fruit, his spiritual sons.

We must be like David, whose godly dream is made generational...made to HAND DOWN...transfer. The temple came into the heart of David at Araunah's threshingfloor. The whole vision, the blueprint is given, is noted...but prophetically David is witheld from its manifestation. I would hasten to add that maybe the REVIVAL WE SEEK IS NOT JUST FOR NOW...BUT FOR GENERATIONS. 2 OF THEM.

When we examine the generations, we see it clearly in the Gospel of Matthew, through the only unique account of chapter 21 is the Triumphal Entry. All acounts almost line up...but miss ONE PROFOUND DETAIL. Jesus did not enter with one animal, but two. The ass and her foal. This speaks of TWO GENERATIONS. Two generations were being spoken about here. Jesus was prophesying. That if they did not recognise Him and receive Him, they would in two generations receive a mighty judgment. That judgment did come historically in 70AD in Titus' day, when he rode in, destroyed the temple and the city, and scattered the jewish people for over 2000 years. Jesus saw that the first older generation would determine the destiny of the next. How much more when we speak of apostolic ministry today. I believe we are in the same season. Jesus is desiring to visit us, for us to RECEIVE HIM. TO RECOGNISE HIS MOVING. If we do not, we will not only die in our ignorance but we will seal the judgment of the next...

The sons must build the house...Solomon received the plans, and followed them...God visitted with Glory. What are we handing down? What are the sons building?

Today the first part of a two part revelation of the apostle's ministry has completed. But there is no true sonship fully realised! The sons are the seal of the apostle, the glory of him. But many see apostolic covering merely as an opportunity to benefit. Rather I see the Lord show us that pioneers give us the capacity to conquer, not the other way round. Therefore, as a son what are you doing for your "father"? Are you honouring him? Are you desirous of receiving from him? Then build him a house...

If the honour is washing his hands, like Elisha did to Elijah, then so be it...but many want more, they want to receive then abandon the apostle, and then put the apostle label on themselves. This is not sonship, this is shoddy business. Without true sonship there is no apostolic succession. If there is no succession there is judgment.

In closing, think, what are you doing as a spiritual son?
