Understanding the Seer Gift by Jeremy Lopez

"(Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.)" 1 Samuel 9:9 KJV Throughout history, mankind has longed to better understand the dimensions of the spiritual realms, and for as long as man has walked upon Planet Earth, the Spirit has revealed Himself in many, various ways - through many various people.  In this modern time of ours, it seems there's an interest in the prophetic as never before.  As a lifelong student of prophecy, I'm thankful to see such a renewed interest in the things of God as men and women, just like you, are coming to a greater understanding of what it truly means to prophesy.

Throughout history, mankind has longed to better understand the dimensions of the spiritual realms, and for as long as man has walked upon Planet Earth, the Spirit has revealed Himself in many, various ways - through many various people.  In this modern time of ours, it seems there's an interest in the prophetic as never before.  As a lifelong student of prophecy, I'm thankful to see such a renewed interest in the things of God as men and women, just like you, are coming to a greater understanding of what it truly means to prophesy.  For far too long, though, the gift of prophecy has been widely misunderstood and often used for little more than to promote fear, push political agendas in the name of God, and, let's face it, make downright outlandish, bizarre claims - often for no other reason than to assert some form of control disguised as "spiritual authority."

In my newest book, Seers: The Eyes of the Kingdom, I share powerful insight into what is perhaps the most widely misunderstood operation of the prophetic anointing - namely, the gift of the seer.  Today, it's all too common to classify any insight one receives as "prophetic," and it seems anyone who publicly shares such insight is labeled, simply, a "prophet."  In Seers: The Eyes of the Kingdom, I share how the seer gift is actually much different from the gift of the prophet.  All seers are prophets; however, not all prophets operate in the realm of the seer.  There is a difference, and the difference matters greatly.  Is the difference merely a mater of semantics, as some have claimed?  Do both operate with the same anointing and did the terms evolve as time went on - with seers and prophets doing the same thing?  The answer is no.

Prophetic Insight Through the Ages

All throughout history, men and women have sought prophetic insight.  Entire kingdoms throughout the ages have risen and fallen, in fact, many times because of prophetic declarations.  Notably, though, within the court of King David, there were, both, seers and prophets - namely, Gad the seer and Nathan the prophet.  Why would David need both?  Where prophets often hear audibly from the Lord, seers hear in a more quiet, more internal way - often through inner sight and even through the use of the five, natural senses.  For the seer, even the senses of taste, touch, and smell serve as tools by which the Holy Spirit can deliver a message.  Throughout history and throughout various cultures, creeds, and world religions, from the visions of the Oracle at Delphi to the mysterious written quatrains of Nostradamus, revelation has come in remarkable ways, often through those the church would never even accept as a "prophet."  What I've learned in my life, though, is that the voice of the Holy Spirit transcends religion.  God is much bigger than the man-made labels we use to define Him.

The term in Hebrew for "prophet" is navi, and navi'a, the feminine term, refers to the "prophetess."  However, in the ancient writings, the term hoze specifically refers to the "seer," further confirming that within the Jewish culture, the seer and the prophet differed. When Jerusalem fell to the Roman Empire in 70 A.D., a time of great persecution came upon the early church.  When Christianity became legalized, though, under the rule of Constantine, the early faith became the state sponsored religion of the day and, as the church found itself in league with powerful, political forces, history records that many of the notable signs and wonders began to greatly diminish - that is, except for the gift of the seer.

God has always been speaking to humanity in an attempt to capture the attention of man - even through Creation itself.  In Seers: The Eyes of the Kingdom, you will learn to not only harness the power of the seer within your own daily life and journey of faith but you will, in turn, learn to fine-tune your sense of discernment to the point that you will literally see God all around you.  Heaven has never been some far-off place reserved for some future, distant time.  As Job said, "I will see the LORD in the land of the living." When the eyes of your understanding become enlightened, not only will you see that Heaven is within you, but you will begin to see Heaven all around you as well.  My prayer for you is that you would hunger after the things of the Spirit and that you would never settle for anything less than the Promise.
