Beyond Being Added Unto: Grace and Peace to Live Multiplied Part 2 by Bill Click

By Bill Click
In part one we began to distinguish between what it means to be "added unto" as opposed to living in the "multiplied" "grace & peace" of God (2Pe.1:2). This was done to bring understanding to the difference between daily covenant life & those times & seasons when breakthroughs come, promises are fulfilled & advances- otherwise impossible to us- are made. After we briefly defined what it means to be "added unto" in Mt.6:33, we went to 2 Peter 1:1-4 which reads: "Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace & peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God & of Jesus our Lord.

After we briefly defined what it means to be "added unto" in Mt.6:33, we went to 2 Peter 1:1-4 which reads:

"Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace & peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God & of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life & godliness through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious & magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature."

In this segment, we revisit these differences in order to go deeper into how your life actually changes by the "multiplied" "grace & peace" of God.

Everything God Does for Us is Good: We Don't Belittle "Daily Bread"

"Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow" (James 1:17).

Lest you think I consider being "added unto" as a somehow inferior work of God, allow me to explain. The difference between being "added unto" & the "multiplied" "grace & peace" pertains to what time it is in the Lord for us, not the limitation in the power of the Lord to us (see also Lk.12:31). For example, the apostles of the New Testament period experienced being "added unto" as a primary way of God working in & through their lives: both personally & as the church (see Acts 2:41; 11:24). Being "added unto" is God's grace manifested as His sustaining, replenishing power, analogized by Christ as "our daily bread" & rooted in New Covenant "mercies" that are "new every morning" (Mt.6:11; Lam.3:22,23; Lk.22:20; 2Cor.3:6). We are to be "added unto" in life as necessary; it comes by a life of "seek first the Kingdom." Being "added unto" is the way we most often experience God's personal involvement & we must remain absolutely grateful for it, every day.

When Being "Added Unto" Just Won't Get it Done

Yet there are times when being "added unto" just won't cut it. The need, whether it be in matters of spirit, soul, body, or relationships, wisdom, strategy, finance, etc., cannot be met by simply continuing on as before, or by adding to what is already in place. Sustaining can be draining in ways that go far beyond explaining, if you know what I mean. There can be days when, with only the ability to go on as before, but not get past that level. You may be like, "I can't take anymore." Simultaneously, not being able to think, pray, or work your way through to an answer can make being "added unto" seem more like a prison sentence than an opportunity to manifest "having done all to stand, stand therefore..." (Eph.6:13). And of course there can be moments of if things don't change, that the end actually is in sight.

Many have found out that such experiences & seasons, in & of themselves, do not necessarily move God's hand. But all of us can surely come to know that God is not only fully committed to us, but will enable us to persevere through as long as we will "seek first the Kingdom" (Romans 8:5-16; 2 Timothy 1:12). "Today," many need to "prove" what Christ said by their actions in order to actually begin to move ahead (Heb. 3:5-4:7; Mal. 3:10). Shallow mindsets of immediacy based on immature & erroneous teachings of the Bible echo the standards of this present age. This causes many to resist the truth & reject the wineskin that can honestly confirm the Word of God in heart, mind, priority & decision-making (Galatians 1:4; Titus 2:12).

"Seek first the Kingdom" means your heart, mind, priorities, & decisions no longer comprise the center of your universe, because it is no longer your universe. God created it & can "roll it up like a scroll" whenever He desires (Isaiah 34:4; Rev. 6:14). Over that which He created & sustains, He is Absolute Ruler. The Kingdom of God is God's. And as a "new creature" in Christ Jesus, so are we (2 Cor. 5:17). We have been graciously granted a place, a role, & a promise in it, but we have to truly be in it, to win it. The Kingdom has eternal reward & temporal blessing, yet obtaining that cannot be separated from taking actual, natural risks (Romans 8:17-39). It's much more about being like Esther than you will ever hear anyone explain: "if I perish, I perish" (Esther 4:16). You may want to reject that, but I will say "who knows whether you are come to the Kingdom for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14). And we both know that answer: God knows.

As you fully take the "can't fail" risk of living in the Kingdom, the fully placed "trust" in God settles your heart, mind, priority & gives you "faith" to take the direction you receive to act (Proverbs 3:5-6; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:1). It is the way you progress & truly approach the timing of God for what is new, next, or beyond what you've ever expected or even asked for (Ephesians 3:20-21). And by living "under the shelter of the shadow of His wing" you can sense God's presence keeping you close to Him, even when your soul & body (apart from God) are not willing to stay at it (Matthew 26:39; 1 Cor. 9:24-27).

Whatever you may want to call it: miracle, breakthrough, reversal, waymake, etc…as you approach the timing of God, you will find that you have to have it. The grace of continuing as you have eventually ebbs away. Anything less or different from what God has ultimately promised you erodes in sufficiency; perhaps your ability to continue elapses completely.

Some Kingdom Math; Some Divine Physics Which Reveal God Economics

Add 2 to 2 ten times: the total is 22. Multiply 2 by 2 ten times: you arrive at 2048. What a difference! Such is the contrast between being "added unto" & "grace & peace...multiplied." Let's apply this difference to confirmed prophetic promises, which always have Kingdom dimensions & significances (that's "Bill speak" for: it's not ever just about you).

If you have 2 in your hand, being "added unto" 10 times (in grace, strength, wisdom, $, etc.) will get you from 2 to 22. It is intended for continuance, not exponential increase. It will temporarily suffice for continuing as you have, but it won't take you past your current level; it cannot get you beyond the season, it is sufficient for "the day" you are in (Matthew 6:34). 2 plus 2 is being "added unto," it is "daily bread." It is just like the Manna was for the Israelites. Or, it could be compared to being able to make an essential payment, take medication which may temporarily ease symptoms until the body heals, or obtain a rented device which must be returned at a specified date.

Now take that same 2 & see it "multiplied" 10 times (the tenth power): it comes to 2048. Compared to being "added unto" to reach 22, being "multiplied" to 2048 is a much more Biblical understanding of the way God performs prophetic promises, which speak of levels far beyond Manna or "daily bread." In fact: the Kingdom math, Divine physics, or God-economics of this almost perfectly equates with "100 fold" (see Matthew 13:23). It is evidence of a manifestation of God's creative power that not only parallels such events as the loaves & fishes, but aligns with the fulfillment of what God's people are endowed with & charged to function in:

"Remember the LORD your God is who gives you the power to create wealth, in order that He might establish His Covenant as He swears to you even to this day " (Deuteronomy 8:18)

Without going off into a Hebrew ditch that I don't have the traction to pull myself out of, just know this: "the power to create wealth" comes from God. It is God's very own power, which means it comes by way of & also contains His very own creativity. It then becomes our own with Him in covenant (by moving at His direction). It results in "wealth" (chayil). This word means "resource, virtue, force, strength, & ability." It has military implications, including the securement of substance by way of a successful war (Strong's 2428).

Divine Ability to Personally Receive vs. Kingdom Power to Achieve

See it this way: being "added unto" refers to getting into position to receive, but "grace & peace" "multiplied" places you in alignment with God to achieve. Then, your outcome not only personally confirms the New Covenant, it produces a testimony of faith transferable to others. By fulfilling a confirmed prophetic promise, you manifest the Kingdom of God & make a truly supernatural impact in two ways: (1) through a release & increase of God's manifested presence in the earth & (2) as a demonstration of the truth that God is who He says & He does what He says He will do.

We must always honor God & be grateful for "daily bread" as we are "added unto" by "seeking first the Kingdom of God & His righteousness." Putting & keeping participation in God's Kingdom "first" grants us entrance into that place of "righteousness" in the Holy Spirit that Paul described as definitive (Romans 14:17-18). But to move into the realm of living undeterred & on the way to unshakeable to pursue the promises, we must enter "the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence." That goes far beyond continuing or surviving, it is about progressing with the confidence that regardless of what takes place, any risk we take as ordered by God is truly the safest way to proceed. It is what faith in action looks like in the Word & in life; it is what is defined as "the way" in Heaven & our "truth & the life" here on earth.

This comes by way of the "grace & peace" multiplied to you." The degree of heart-fixation, Christ-thinking & eternal desire needed for what you have been promised is available through "the true knowledge of Him who called" you. Remember, Peter described His readers as "those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours" (v.1). You need what will allow you to progress in the realm of the Spirit, that which truly expands, fills, energizes & sufficiently transforms you. To be sure: know that it can feature extensive, intensive seasons of being challenged & changed. But it results in establishing an ongoing daily life in God which- outside the Kingdom's heart, mind, desire & priority, can only be heard about or witnessed in others, not ever truly known, experienced and possessed.
