Holy Moments By Deborah Goodlove

Holy moments are when we turn aside and look into the day for the Masters hand.

I had one of those holy moments today as I was driving to church. I was admiring the beautiful fall leaves and watching some flocks of birds.

All of a sudden in front of me in the sky was a line of small birds flying across the highway in a wide stream like a ribbon waving in the breeze. It was a fluid stream moving in unison so precise and flowing up and down and I delighted in seeing them as I passed under this ribbon of flowing birds.

And I looked up again at a smaller flock that was off to the side and they turned in a group at that moment and made a 3D-heart shape in the sky so perfect that I gasped.  For one brief second a heart of birds temporarily suspended in time in that one second for me to enjoy. They are written in the moments of my heart that take my breath away and draw me into the presence (presents) of the wonders of God.

I remember a moment driving with my daughter Leah at sunset. It was a beautiful florescent orange ball sunset, which was just peeking through under some heavy purple clouds.  As we were driving off to our left there was a huge corn processing plant and it billowed out great clouds of steam and at that moment in time with the dark purple sky from the clouds and the sun streaming underneath fluorescent orange rays were hitting the steam clouds making them florescent orange in a purple sky. It was so breathtaking. A once in a lifetime phenomenon! I wished I had a camera at the time. I was so happy to be able to share that moment with Leah. No one else will understand the depth of beauty and amazement in that moment in time.

It felt like a glimpse of heaven it was so beautiful, so overwhelming, so God! He paints these beautiful pictures that last for brief moments of time that we have to capture on our hearts memory. I believe that is what he is doing! Capturing our hearts! When we take a moment to turn aside and see the beauty he has bestowed on this earth for us to dwell in. And for that moment we are his kings and queens, sons and daughters, who get to share that beautiful moment with him! A lot of those moments we only get to share with God himself. When we do have someone else to share them with there is more joy having a witness who will back up the incredibleness of our story!

These moments can be in nature; they can be in children or in our pets. They are so precious and render our hearts to the softness of God's precious love for us. I believe they are passion moments. Given to us by a passionate God, our creator; master artist, lover, musician, and humorist. A dramatic God who is dramatic in quiet captivating moments that if we are not watching, we will miss!

I hunger and I ache and I yearn for those moments when I can catch God doing the incredible in the ordinary day I take for granted.  I feel my heart meld with his in those moments. Encounters of the supernatural with the God of the supernatural! The God of creation who yearns and longs for his children to turn aside and recognize him. To appreciate the gifts he gives us every day as the sun rises and the sun sets. The gifts he brings to the hearts of his children tied in ribbons of rainbows or ribbons of birds; fields of harvest presents and trees dripping color on the ground beneath as fall blooms for us. And Father looks down and smiles at his work and it is good!

Sharing More Holy Moments

Another holy moment happy memory I experienced was with my son Nathan making happy cows. Nathan was in high school doing farm chores for a farmer and working with young bulls for 4H. I remember the gray overcast sky on the cold transition day to Spring. As we were getting close to the farm it started sleeting.  Nathan went into the barn and I followed him.  I was expecting to see young bulls, a couple hundred pounds. To my surprise they were like 1,200 pounds. Big bulls……..oh my God!  And they came inside the pen happily getting out of the weather following him. Nathan began to throw straw on the ground in the pen for them and the 2 young bulls began to charge at him and frisk about. At first I was frightened for him. Then I just watched as the bulls played with my son in the fresh straw. He made happy cows feeding them giving them bedding.  They had a relationship! They were enjoying him and he was enjoying them. I was enjoying sharing in the moment the things my son did that I rarely got to witness.  I had such joy watching him. He was so tall and strong and confident.  I thank God for that holy moment that my Daddy, Father God let me share with my son Nathan.

Today my daughter Leah called this morning and we shared another holy moment over the phone. She was telling me she had hummingbirds on her patio......she had just hung a hummingbird feeder last night. And while she was on the phone with me a fawn ran out of the wood across the lawn by her apartment then back into the woods. She was so excited. We got to share the moment. Daddy did that for us both and I appreciated it immensely. I appreciated her love of nature and God's creation and Daddy, Father God, Abba let me share in her love and experience of it in that moment. And we both were happy!  Delighting in the moment of shared appreciation and love!
