Created for a Higher Purpose by Teresa Shields Parker

God tells us that we are wonderfully and fearfully made which basically means we were created for a higher purpose, for His purpose. "I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well," (Psalm 139:14 AMP). What does that really mean? Fearfully when translated from the Hebrew means with great reverence, heart-felt interest, and with respect. Wonderfully when translated from the Hebrew means unique and set apart. God created each of us with a higher purpose than we even have knowledge of. It's His secret that He's revealing to us a little at a time until we are able to wrap our brains around the entire enchilada.

Higher Purpose

God created each of us with a higher purpose than we even have knowledge of. It’s His secret that He’s revealing to us a little at a time until we are able to wrap our brains around the entire enchilada.

God does have a purpose for your life. It’s why He created you. We may not know everything about our purpose right now, but God is working it out even as we speak.

Romans 8:28 says it this way. “We are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together for good, for we are His lovers who have been called to fulfill His designed purpose.”

God has a purpose that is heartfelt, intentional, gifted, healthy, exceptional and respectful.

Heartfelt

God created us with heartfelt interest. He knew exactly why we were being created. No matter how we came into this world, we are not an accident. And everything we go through in this life is only a test and trial to help us come closer to God.

Ephesians 2:7 TPT says it this way. “Throughout the coming ages we will be the visible display of the infinite riches of His grace and kindness, which was showered upon us in Jesus Christ.”

Intentional

God created each of us with great reverence. That means He created us intentionally and on purpose to live out a specific destiny.

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed,” Psalm 139:13-15 NLT.

Gifted

God created each of us with gifts. We may not know what they are right now, but God will reveal them to us when we need to use them. He gives us gifts in order to build up the body of Christ and help each other.

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other” (1 Cor. 12:4-6 NLT).

Healthy

God created each of us with the capacity to be healthy, to take care of our bodies which are His temples. We can’t fulfill the purpose God has for us to do unless we take care of this earth suits, we call our bodies.

“I know this was more than true for me and it is for each of us. It is what God desires for us. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 2 NKJV).

Exceptional

God created us to be exceptional and different from others in a distinct way. Our looks are different. Our DNA is different, even our voice print is different. That’s why we can recognize a voice when we don’t see the person. But according to God, being set apart means we are dedicated for His use.

Galatians 1:15-16: “When God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles.”

The interesting thing about this is that Paul was an exceptional theologian who wrote half of the New Testament. He didn’t start out that way. He started out persecuting and killing Christians. Still, he recognized that he was created from the foundations of the earth to be set apart or exceptional in God’s kingdom.

Respectful

God created us with respect. He created us from a feeling of deep admiration for the gifts, talents, abilities, and qualities He placed in us. He also created us knowing who we could become. We were created to be Christ’s image bearers and to live a fulfilled life for an amazing and unique purpose.

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Cor. 3:18 ESV).

God’s Purpose for You

Even when you know a bit about God’s purpose there are days when you will feel like you can’t go on. You may feel like you’re just one big, huge mistake and there’s nothing good in you at all.

When this happens, let Psalm 139 be your go-to chapter to remind you of who you are to God and why He created you. This chapter tells us that He had a purpose for us before time begin. He knit us together in our mothers’ wombs. We were not accidents.

God has higher plans for each of us, higher than we ever imagined. Grab hold of that truth and see whatever you are going through today as just the next step towards what He has planned for you.
