The Zeal of the Lord Will Perform This! by Pam Clark

By Pam Clark
Every young minister who is called, at whatever age, is eager to share their gift.  While some seek a specific call, others are just full of zeal, ready to share what they can. This is beautiful to God just like parents see all good in their small children who seek to perform well in their certain ways. The young minister is really excited when they get to sing or preach in a segment of the church service.  They can feel they have arrived when they get the attention of others and feel that their "anointing" is confirmed. It's great to them and significant, but they often act like a teen-ager and don't realize that they didn't have to acquire the building and pay the utilities and set up the sound system and maintain the audience.

But such is young life, it's still beautiful, and when it is approved by the Lord, then true teaching begins.   Often it starts in helping with church maintenance, picking up trash, vacuuming or sweeping the floors and bathroom clean up.  Those who have the gifts of help often don't mind, but it can sober a young hot shot who is ready to be famous.

But yet that zeal is good, it just needs to be rightly applied, as the Bible says, with knowledge.  Some are called to pastor, some to preach and teach and some are called to an evangelism ministry.

Good parents give their children chores to help maintain the household they live in, and it creates not only an identity (from which they can grow) to the infusion of responsibility that will help them acquire the respect they want to earn.

Ministry is a job, an employment, and many want to learn from scratch by doing it on their own.  Others prefer being understudies at their local church.  Some go to school, but without being mentored by another, can miss some important points.

Especially in larger churches, that can be harder to come by because the competition is stronger and one on one help is in higher competition.

But if they really want to grow, they will learn to humble themselves and serve in many places to actually see how it's done and take on assignments that they can learn how to accomplish, getting a confidence in that area.

Seeing Ministry from a Biblical Point of View

A true calling will put a drive in you to pursue it.   Sometimes just sensing an approval from the Lord (or an honored person) will drive a person into ministry.  They feel accepted, at home, encouraged and willing to take some hits for a greater cause.

But then we have to come to the place where we see ministry from a Biblical point of view.   That means learning the Bible in a way that it is personally understandable, to see how Jesus and all the other saints did it - and they can be quite varied.

But the bottom line is that these people connected with God and then responded.  They seek for like kind and learn that they can learn more!  It's not just an experience, but a road map, with a Spirit Guide (the Holy Spirit).

This road map walks through life unto death, and all the experiences in between.  If they are really called to serve, they will have a heart to serve.  Many are called to their families and friends, and even strangers, and have no idea that the seemingly small things they do to be faithful have a RICH impact upon others that please the Lord.

The prayers that are sincerely prayed by many make a HUGE difference.  Someone was nice to the mother who blessed their child in love who blessed a friend and they encouraged someone in a dark time to hang in there and that person did something good that was pivotal to you, a stranger!  Only God can see all this.

The enemy works to chain motion the dark things, that often start a negative cycle.  Some are so discouraged or untaught or abused to a place of hopelessness that pivots the way things work around them.  The world is filled with both!

But when the Church loses its momentum, people can become friends of the devil!  And some who have no other attention will gravitate towards that!  They will look to join the stronger power, whichever that is, because they want the strength to overcome.

This is where the SPIRIT of good or evil takes on strength!  We are a fallen world until we get the strongholds within ourselves en masse, as a group of believers!  And the intelligent crafty ones will seek to group people into strongholds.  some for good, and some for evil self-serving causes.

If we don't know the Bible and can't find any ministers, then the society is affected and falls apart.  Some will go to politics for the joy of the afflictions there, some will go to wild ideas, and some will create strongholds for self-will.

But when we can meet and get to know the LORD, then life takes on overcoming meaning.  Our faith is not just in an instruction Book, but it is an engagement with a Holy Strength!  But we have to learn it.  We don't just learn the Book, but also the Personality!  And when we miss that, then we see finite man and his weakness rather than the strength of his faith.

We don't want to become enemies with the One who is strong, who lives forever and who overcomes for OUR good!  Many start off well but get discouraged along the way.  How wonderful when we get our momentum and become a force for good, and in broad spectrum because of Who He Is!
