A Time for Word Recall by Sara Whitten

By Sara Whitten
As we have prayed recently for multiple people in the natural being affected in the area of word recall, God began to gentle nudge me that this is representing a prayer He has for His whole body. This is a time for word recall! To recall has several definitions according to Oxford, some of which include: bring (a fact, event, or situation) back into one's mind; remember; officially order (someone) to return to a place; bring (someone) out of a state of inattention or reverie. These are three things God is doing right now. First, God is bringing to mind or causing us to remember. These words or testimonies or struggles that He’s causing us to remember are not on accident. As you notice things coming to mind again and again, ask God for illumination about what He wants you to recall or learn about HIM in these instances or about the way He works in your life.

As we have prayed recently for multiple people in the natural being affected in the area of word recall, God began to gentle nudge me that this is representing a prayer He has for His whole body. This is a time for word recall!

To recall has several definitions according to Oxford, some of which include:

  • bring (a fact, event, or situation) back into one's mind; rememberâ€
  • officially order (someone) to return to a place
  • bring (someone) out of a state of inattention or reverie
These are three things God is doing right now. First, God is bringing to mind or causing us to remember. These words or testimonies or struggles that He's causing us to remember are not on accident. As you notice things coming to mind again and again, ask God for illumination about what He wants you to recall or learn about HIM in these instances or about the way He works in your life.

Second, God is asking us to officially order things to return to place. Maybe things have become derailed, distracted, or watered down. It's time to remember what He has said and to echo His words as orders for things to return to place.

Finally, God is waking people up. If you've been in inattention or reverie (which is defined as "lost in thought"), God is bringing things into focus. Expect a new sharpness and clarity.

Recall

Next, I looked in God's word for instances involving recall. What does the Bible tell us to recall?

Forgotten things - "Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh, "Today I recall my failures." Gen. 41:9

In this passage the cupbearer had forgotten about Joseph in prison! He had become distracted. In a moment, God reminded him, and his response to that nudge changed the entire course of Biblical history.

What you've been delivered from and why you're doing what you're doing - "Recall that you were slaves in the land of Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there by strength and power. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day." Deut. 5:15

What God has done to your enemies - "You must not fear them. You must carefully recall what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt." Deut. 7:18

Miraculous deeds and mighty acts in your life - "Recall the miraculous deeds he performed, his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed." 1 Chron. 16:12

Warnings He has given you - "Please recall the word you commanded your servant Moses: 'If you act unfaithfully, I will scatter you among the nations." Nehemiah 1:8

God's instructions for you over your competing worldly influences - "Then you must recall the Lord's instructions and the prophetic testimony of what would happen. Certainly they say such things because their minds are spiritually darkened." Isaiah 8:20

"But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you." John 14:26

Words spoken by God to you through prophets and apostles - "To recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the commandment of our Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles." 2 Peter 3:2

Dust off your old prophetic words that the Lord has given you!

"But you, dear friends, recall the predictions foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ." Jude 1:17

Remember Your Prophecies

Remind yourself of the prophecies the Bible holds for YOU.

Two nights ago I had a dream. In my dream I had ordered an enchilada plate. When our food came, however, I couldn't tell what mine was. It looked like Mexican food, but it didn't look like an enchilada. I remember looking around thinking, "Is this what I ordered?"

As I woke up, I felt the Lord saying the same. So many have either forgotten the order (the words He has spoken over them), OR when they've "ordered" (another word for order is decree!), what has happened since that time has been something that doesn't resemble the promise at all. There's been a temptation for settling for close enough. God is saying in these cases, "That's not what I ordered for you! Go back and recall my words!"

One of the most paralyzing things the enemy could try is to make us forget God's words. His famous garden question shows it, "Did God really say..?" The enemy also tries to convince us that His words were missed or weren't really what we thought. It's true that often God plans and envisions things in different ways than we can, but they are always BETTER. So friends, pull out those old prayer journals. Refresh your mind on the exact words He has spoken to you. Recall specific scriptures over and over that He has spoken for you. It's a time to fight with word recall!
