For the
Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He
will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. John 5:20 NKJV
God is calling His people to
marvel once again. According to Webster, marvel is something that causes
wonder, astonishment, intense surprise, amazement. During this time of
Christmas and Hanukah it is easy to look at the virgin birth of Jesus, the
Magi, the flight to Egypt, the dreams giving direction to Mary and Joseph, the
angelic chorus singing above the shepherds. Indeed these miraculous events
compel us to marvel, to look at our Lord with wonder.
Totally Restored
Recently we saw a graphic, tragic
photograph of two Indian women plagued with leprosy. One was obviously blind.
Both were missing all the ends of their fingers. This picture reminded us of
the beautiful and awesome story of Jesus healing a leper.
And it
happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of
leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, "Lord, if
You are willing, You can make me clean." Then He put out His hand and touched
him saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately the leprosy left him. Luke 4:12-13 NKJV
This man had been full of
leprosy. It is likely that, as with the women in the photograph, he too was
missing fingers and blind. Jesus completely healed him. The word for healed is
therapeuo, meaning he was healed, restored, cured. This man was made whole. He
was totally restored in mind, body and spirit. Emotional scars from the
isolation and ridicule were healed. His eyes could see. His hands and feet had
every finger and every toe made new. Once again he could work with his hands.
Once again he could embrace life.
Watch and Be Alert
With the prophet Habakkuk we cry
out, "Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds,
O Lord.Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember
mercy" (Habakkuk 3:2 NIV).
This same God is worthy of marvel
today. One ordinary day we heard the Spirit say "Get ready to be astounded!"
And, more recently we heard Him say "So, you think you've been astounded?" And
then…He laughed! It was as if He were saying the words from the old song "You
ain't seen n-n-n-nothin' yet!"
Watch! Be alert! Ask Him to give
you eyes to see what He is doing. He is busy all over the world today! Muslims
and Hindus are getting saved! We personally see this every year as we go to the
nations. He is making Himself known in dreams and visions. Revival is breaking
out on every continent. He is healing. He is restoring. He is uniting
families. He is marvelous!
The beautiful baby in the manger
has grown up. He conquered death. He is sitting at the right hand of the Father
in heaven. He sees all. He is in control. He is not moved. He is not shaken. He
is active. He is glorious! May He awaken us to marvel today - to marvel at
Jesus, the King of kings, and Lord of lords.
Jesus is beautiful! He is altogether
lovely. He is powerful. Jesus reigns victorious! He
performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted
(Job 9:10 NIV).
