New Horizons by Sara Whitten

By Sara Whitten
As I drove home from church yesterday, Michael W Smith sang "I lift my eyes...I look to the horizon now." At that exact moment my eyes met the word "horizon" printed on the back of the truck in front of me. I felt God pressing me to seek Him more about this word. In my quiet time the next morning, I asked Him to reveal more to me about horizons and did a little digging. "The horizon or skyline is the apparent line that separates earth from sky, the line that divides all visible directions into two categories: those that intersect the Earth's surface, and those that do not." (Wikipedia)

God is opening our eyes to two visible directions - that of heaven and that of earth. He is showing you the pieces of heaven and His plan that have already intersected with your earthly reality as places to fortify with our praises and thanks. He is also drawing attention to that which HAS YET to intersect. These things are what we are to pray down!

"At many locations, the true horizon is obscured by trees, buildings, mountains, etc., and the resulting intersection of earth and sky is called the visible horizon." (Wikipedia).

The mountains of our perceived problems block our true view of heaven intersecting earth. Man-constructed things also block this view - institutions, routine, etc. can falsely raise the horizon, making your perspective show more of earth and less of heaven. Good news, heaven is closer than you think! That horizon line is lower than your distractions would lead you to believe! Now is a time to ask for heavenly eyes to see beyond these things obscuring your view.

"The word horizon derives from the Greek horizon kyklos, 'separating circle,' from the verb horizo, 'to divide,' 'to separate,' and that from oros, 'boundary, landmark.'" (Wikipedia)

Expand Your Horizons

God gave me this revelation: "Your view of the horizon, your view of where heaven meets earth and how separate or one they are is where you set your boundaries. I am wanting to expand your boundaries. I'm wanting to expand your horizons. So first let Me expand your perspective."

A few dictionary definitions for horizon included "the limit or range of perception, knowledge, or the like." Or "the scope of a person's interest, education, understanding, etc." (www.dictionary.com)

God is stretching the limit of our understanding, knowledge, and perception. He is drawing our attention to where these boundaries currently are because in that awareness we will be able to loosen our tightly-held views and allow Him to expand our horizons.

Do you know there's also a horizon called the rational horizon? It's "the great circle of the celestial sphere whose plane passes through the center of the earth and is parallel to the sensible horizon of a given position, or the plane of such a circle." (www.dictionary.com)

God is saying, "you have in your mind 'sensible horizons.' These things are the limit of what is possible in your situation. They set boundaries on how quickly or slowly I can move, what I can accomplish, and how it will happen. RELEASE your sensible horizons! There are no such things. I make the wisdom of this world like foolishness in all of My impossibility. Look at the new horizon, and let Me give you new eyes to see."
