Luke 19:13 (KJV) And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten
pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
Other translations say; Do
business - till I come.
In other words, Jesus is saying
to take what He has given us and put it to work. Engage in trade with what you have. Stay busy with what has been given to you. Make your money grow. If you're money isn't growing, it has become
stagnant which is contrary to what we're told to do.
The Greek word used for occupy is
pragmateuomai which translates as "to busy oneself with," i.e. to trade.
Money is Energy and Must Flow
Effluence is derived from the
root word "affluence." The word
affluence means "to flow in abundance."
Money is energy. In order for
energy to work, it must flow and the same is true for money. Another word for money is "currency," which
also suggests the flowing nature of energy.
The word currency comes from the Latin word "currere" which means "to
run" or "to flow."
With this in mind, if we stop the
circulation or flow of money and our only action is to hold on to our money and
hoard it, since it is energy and we stop it's flow out, we will also stop the
flow back into our lives. The main
characteristic of energy is that it is a "give and take" process. Giving leads to receiving, and receiving
leads to giving. If you give, you will
receive. If you receive, you should
give. What goes up must come down; what
goes out must come back. In reality,
receiving and giving are both aspects of the flow of energy (money). And if you stop the flow of either, you
interfere with the nature of this flow.
In order to keep the energy
(money) circulating, like a river, money MUST keep flowing. If not, it begins to stagnate, to clog, to suffocate
and to strangle its own life force. By
continuing to circulate and flow, it stays alive and vital.
Save, Don't Hoard
Yes, saving money is definitely a
good plan. But there is a difference
between saving money and hoarding it.
Saving is a sign of abundance. However,
hoarding is a reflection of one's belief that scarcity is the way of the future
and that the flow of money (or energy) will not work.
True and lasting prosperity is a
state of being in the flow constantly, not a state of having money. One of the most powerful actions you can take
with your money is to circulate it with joy, gratitude and generosity. When you give to others, do it joyfully
knowing that the money will be coming back to you as part of the endless flow.
So to occupy doesn't mean to camp
out and protest for or against certain issues facing our country. Occupy means we should take what God has
given us - our resources, our money, our minds, our creativity, etc. and do the
best we can with it.
Get in the flow, knowing that
what you send out will come back to you and the more you give, the more you
will receive. That's how the process
works.
So occupy!
