It's Time to Dance on Fear by Kathi Pelton

By Kathi Pelton
I had a dream that I was walking through a house with my husband, my youngest daughter and her husband.  I became aware that this house had a demon in it. As we walked through the various hallways in the house, I felt a pervading sense of fear and darkness, which increased moment by moment. We walked upstairs and I saw a room with a closed door. I knew that the demon was in that room. I asked my husband, daughter and son-in-law to stay in the hallway and to wait for me. As I entered the room fear was like a thick, tangible presence, but I went in and closed the door. The only item in the room was a plush velvet rocking chair with a blanket draped over it.

The Dream

The room had one window covered with velveteen drapes. I went to the chair and sat down because I thought that I could better handle the fear if I felt comfortable and safe. As I settled into the chair, the fear intensified, so I took the blanket and wrapped it around me. The fear increased even more so I put the blanket over my head.

I began rebuking the demon but still the atmosphere of fear increased. Then the demon began to manifest its power in the room by tipping the chair, causing me to fall out of it. I still clutched the blanket, so it ripped it from me.  At that point the curtains began flapping as if blown by a wind, and then they were ripped off the window.  I stared at all the chaos and realized that the demon was putting on a show; like a display of power. Suddenly I was filled with this crazy courage, causing all fear to vanish. I jumped to my feet in the realization of who I am in Christ and began wildly dancing throughout the room, singing the name of Jesus over and over. Then I broke out into laughter and I realized that my focus had been on getting rid of the demon, rather than the assignment that it was sent to perform. The assignment was fear and as I overcame fear and began to dance and rejoice the spirit left and I woke up.

Dance on It!

Are you are being harassed by the enemy? Is he trying to move you from your posture of faith, similar to me being tipped out of my chair? Is he trying to disrupt things around you the same way he yanked the blanket off of me and tore the drapes down? If so, it just might be time to "dance on it" with great abandon. Remember who you are! You are a child of the King and fear has no place in you.

The assignment was fear! This is what the demon wanted to release in order to take possession of this house (the house can represent a person). He targeted the things that I initially went to for safety as I felt fear. I found comfort in the chair and then I added a blanket to hide underneath.  Even though I prayed and rebuked, the enemy knew that I was still afraid because I did it from the comfort of the chair and under the hiding place of the blanket. When those "comforts" were removed, instead of being terrified, I was able to stand up in the strength of the Lord and see the absurdity of the display that the demon was putting on. I remember that in the dream I wanted to break out laughing at how afraid I had been and how ridiculous this "show" had been.  As the fear left I just couldn't help myself…I began dancing upon the curtains and the blanket that was on the floor. I danced completely free of all fear.  The demon had to leave because his assignment had been overthrown and he had nothing else he could do.

The Truth Will Set You Free

The enemy cannot stand it when we stop being afraid of him. This demon had no idea what to do when I arose and began to dance in the midst of his trickery; it was all too much for him. Fear was the assignment and when I overcame fear the demon had to leave.

We spend too much time rebuking the enemy rather than discerning the assignment and dancing upon it with truth. The truth was (and is) that no weapon formed against you will prosper! If the enemy's weapon is fear then it will not prosper, so shed the false comforts and shod your feet with truth and begin to dance. As truth comes upon your feet that assignment goes where it belongs…UNDER YOUR FEET!

I love the passages in Isaiah 54:11-17 in The Message translation of the Bible, "Afflicted city, storm-battered, unpitied: I'm about to rebuild you with stones of turquoise, lay your foundations with sapphires, construct your towers with rubies, your gates with jewels, and all your walls with precious stones. All your children will have GOD for their teacher—what a mentor for your children!

You'll be built solid, grounded in righteousness, far from any trouble—nothing to fear! Far from terror—it won't even come close! If anyone attacks you, don't for a moment suppose that I sent them, and if any should attack, nothing will come of it. I create the blacksmith who fires up his forge and makes a weapon designed to kill. I also create the destroyer—but no weapon that can hurt you has ever been forged. Any accuser who takes you to court will be dismissed as a liar. This is what GOD's servants can expect.  I'll see to it that everything works out for the best."  This is GOD's Decree.

It's time for God's people to get up and dance! Dance upon every bad report, dance upon every fear, dance upon injustice, dance upon everything that has disrupted your joy and gladness!

Now get up and dance!

Psalm 149:2-4 …Let Israel be glad in his Maker; Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre. For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.
