One of the most important dimensions in a father - son relationship is to glorify God for what the relationship has been divinely given for in the earth, to show a pattern of authenticity that the kingdom is relational, to bring to remembrance the Image of God that both the father and the son walks therein, and that like a true father, both depend and trust the Lord.
When the son begins to walk with a father, the son does not minster out of their greatly anointed gifting, but out of his/her Sonship. That the father has patience in the process of the son coming into the expression of the dignity of the relationship, a mature expression, and not to act or remain as a child-ling.
The father provides for the son wisdom, revelation, admonition, direction, impartation, activation, leadership, etc. And the son gets to become involved in the father's business {Ministry, Networking}, etc. The father remains a father in the absence of the son, and a son remains a son in the absence of the father. Because of distance and time, there is no breach in the relationship.
Divine Appointing
The relationship is not based on how gifted you are, but by the Divine Appointing of the Lord. Many want an anointing but no appointing. The want to be so anointed, but the question is, "Are you Appointed?" Ointment over Appointment, and the desire to be greatly anointed. We have seen this so many times...
But know this, the Anointing that Jesus operated in was in part that he came to earth, but from the beginning the Lord was in the glory of our God. The anointing is much needed, for we are in this earth realm, but when you ascend from or to the realm of His Unlimited Glory, you flow then, out of the Glory, and that, beloved, is another message, another time and another place...
When so called fathers boast daily how anointed they are, they become non-relational, for the kingdom is relational. When so called sons {Daughters also walk in Sonship} remain caught up in how anointed they are, the relationship stops right there. The same principle, how many adults today stop living due to some offense in their life and they can't get over, which they find themselves emotionally stuck in time, or in some Nexus {Star Trek Fans}. can't seem to be themselves, and can't to be free, for many years ago, when something began to hurt them inside, that's where they stop growing emotionally, that's where their happiness ended.
Enduring Relationships
There is also the matter of fathers or sons failing to suffer or endure with one another. As soon as the father suffers, the sons leave and go to another just that quick. The sons, if you will, know only of the good time, the move of God, the revelation of the Word, but when the novelty wears off, they are gone. The same with fathers who only want to hang in there with the sons, but as soon as the sowing of seed stops, that is, from those who are mature in expression and find it an honor to do so, then the father jets out of there. This spurious behavior goes on more than you would think.
So how do we conclude this important subject matter? By simply being yourself. No need for either to sweat profusely when you are around each other. No need for intimidation, for remember, this is a divine relationship, and all God is, ever was, and forever shall be, is Love. Learn to relax in your own skin, talk about anything beside the mysteries of God, talk about each other's day, how they are feeling, {That can sometimes be within it self-small talk}, talk about life, your families, jobs, travels, movies, sports games, hang out when you can, as some fathers are in a different proximity and others are across the globe.
If you feel the witness for such relationship, aim to see each other in person at some time, let that be your joy and expectation, and not to count your sons just by being on FaceBook alone, it would be good to meet in person in due time, make the effort, and let the Lord seal what He has put together. And lastly, the most effective aspect of father and son is simply walking together and talking together. That's what Elijah and Elisha did, walking together and talking together, and everything else will flow to you, and from you!
