I love the prophetic! It is awesome ministry tool.  However, this article pertains mainly to the office of the prophet.

Many (not all) of today's prophets are still in old prophet style, Old Testament "mode."

The enemy seeks to make them feel "more special" then the rest of the body in this calling and also seeks to keep them bound up, telling them they ARE as the prophets of old. The spirit of error and the teachings of men has spoken that they should be rejected, their messages rejected, and that they are isolated. This has led to a lot of wounded prophetic people needing to be healed from the spirits of rejection and pride. Bless their hearts, they can't even see that the truth of who they really are in Him, that will give them greater influence in their ministries.

The New Covenant

The New Covenant prophet operates the gifts and office by love. Love flows through the tunnel of Grace. Encouraging the body...edifying the body...uplifting the body in His true Spirit. NOT a spirit of condemnation and dire warnings of judgment by the hand of God. It is sad to see the enemy's deception - for many cannot receive the new thing. The worst thing of all, is that what they are speaking is misrepresenting WHO HE IS .Yes, they still operate in some accuracy, BUT, they apply the wrong interpretations to what they have seen or heard. This makes the Lord seem angry and ready to slam down His fist in judgment. The earth itself is a living thing (as is all created things by God).It IS moaning and groaning under the weight of sin and unrighteousness…waiting , needing, the sons and daughter of the Lord to rise up in dominion. God has given us this authority, but few can operate in it in His fullness.  When is the last time you walked on water, demonstrating power over nature?

NT prophets can, when mature and trustworthy, give directional words or give warnings...but it is FOR us, not against us. God is for us, not against us, so why would any of His servants do anything any different?

The warnings seen or heard are because of His love - to prepare, stop, or lessen what may take place by our prayers and requests to Him.

The OT type prophets take themselves way too seriously. Yes, it is a great responsibility to speak for the Lord. But it isn't about us...it's about correctly giving out His heart and mind to a world HE came and even died for.

Prophets and Apostles are still foundational to the body of Christ, while Jesus is the cornerstone which is the strength of the whole structure. They are at the bottom layer…the foundation, serving and building upward the house (living stones) that Jesus is building. When we get this foundation right with the direction of Jesus, the body of ministers of all the living stones, will be built tall and powerful in His name. THEN the gates of hell will not prevail upon it.
