The Wounded Warrior by Anthony Stanley

By Anthony Stanley
A few weeks ago the Holy Spirit spoke these words to me, He said, "The Wounded Warrior." Then He asked me this question, "What is the significance of being a wounded warrior?" I had no answer. He said to me, "It's the posture the wounds create!" Then He gave me an illustration using the military. Whenever an individual enrolls in the military one of the first things that is adjusted is their posture. No soldier will enter the battlefield with a slouched posture because soldiers must stand up straight with confidence in battle.

The position of at attention, or standing at attention, is a military posture which involves the following general positions: Standing upright with an assertive and correct posture: famously "chin up, chest out, shoulders back, stomach in." In men's military that stance is an act of confidence, but that act of confidence can also represent pride through the eyes of God.

Our position and posture in the kingdom of God should be different. Our commander and chief in the army of heaven desire us to present ourselves broken before Him. When you enter the battlefield in heavens army, you aren't fighting a carnal battle but a spiritual one, so your position, posture, and weapons will be different. 2 Corinthians 10:4 "because the weapons we use to wage war are not worldly. On the contrary, ‘we have God's power for demolishing strongholds."

What are Our Weapons?
  • The sword of the spirit (God's Word)
  • Worship
  • Prayer & intercession
  • Repentance
  • The blood of Jesus
  • Our testimonies
  • Demolishing strongholds
When we "possess the anointing of God" (the anointing is a spiritual empowerment to survive in the Earth realm,) which is the power of God that rest of our lives. It is only by the anointing we can demolish strongholds.

"The anointing destroys the yokes and lift heavy burdens." Isaiah 10:27

In heavens army, your posture is that of a wounded warrior because it represents your position in the sight of God as humble and in need of His help. You may look weak in front of your enemies, but you are strong in the Lord because your strength doesn't come from you; it comes from Jesus Christ our Lord!!

 Jesus is the Wounded Soldier

"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 KJV

It didn't seem fair that Jesus was going into battle wounded. However, the enemy didn't know that Jesus wounds were going to be our access to righteous living, no more sickness, supernatural miracles, signs and wonders, everlasting peace, and much more!

The Apostle Paul the Wounded Warrior

"Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews, five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is offended, and I burn not?" 2 Corinthians 11:23-29 KJV

Even though Paul was wounded in battle, he did not allow his wounds to hinder him, but his wounds created opportunities to encourage those he wrote to/ encountered. His wounds created the perfect posture before God. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:7:7 "Therefore, to keep me from becoming overly proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from the adversary to pound away at me, so that I wouldn't grow conceited."

"Wounds that leave scars are a reminder of Gods goodness towards us in the heart of the battle."

Being in the Right Position

In the military of man, a wounded warrior is prohibited from entering the battlefield because they add no value to the fight, but not in heavens army! A wounded soldier in the army of heaven is in the right position (bent over), because now God can fight for them. When the Lord fires at your enemy, you are not in the line of fire because of your new (bent over) posture. Your helpless posture will create an ambush against your enemy.  As soldiers of Christ, when people wound us we are not to seek revenge, but we are given the commandment to forgive and love them.

"But I tell you, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! Then you will become children of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun shine on good and bad people alike, and he sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous alike. What reward do you get if you love only those who love you? Why even tax-collectors do that!" Matthew 5:44-46

We cannot claim to be children of God if we can't love and forgive those who have wounded us. We must love those who have wounded us with words, sexual violations, unfaithfulness, lies, all the above! When you do this, the Lord will fight for you.

"Every believer's posture must be that of the wounded warrior to remain in the army of God."

When we confess and believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior we are immediately enlisted into Heaven's army. II Timothy 2:3-4 "Thou, therefore, endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."

There's an old saying that says, "hurt people hurt people." This saying has truth when we are referring to the world, but false when referring to the kingdom of God. As soldiers, we must come to God with a broken spirit and a contrite heart, for that is what qualifies us to remain as soldiers in Heaven's army.
