What if I told you there is a library in Heaven, and inside that library are books written about you — stories filled with your identity, your destiny, and the very treasures God has hidden in your life? Would you want to know what's in those books?
Most of us have never heard of a prophetic story. We are familiar with prophetic words — someone stepping forward with a microphone and declaring, 'Thus says the Lord.' That expression of the gift is powerful and biblical, and God still uses it. But what if there is another expression of the prophetic that Jesus Himself modeled — one that doesn't announce the Kingdom but instead invites you to discover it?
That is the heart of what I call the Prophetic Story.
A New Expression of an Ancient Gift
The prophetic gift has always been about revelation — God pulling back the curtain and allowing us to see what He sees. But revelation does not always come in declarative sentences. Sometimes it comes wrapped in a story, full of symbols and hidden treasure, waiting for you to seek it out.
Proverbs 25:2 puts it this way: "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter." Proverbs 25:2 (NKJV)
Did you catch that? God conceals things — not to withhold from us, but to hide things for us. The treasure is not absent; it is buried just beneath the surface, waiting for a son or daughter with a seeking heart to uncover it.
A prophetic story operates on that same principle. When Holy Spirit inspires a story written specifically for you, the details, symbols, and characters are not random. They are hidden messages from the Father about who you are and where you are going. The story is not meant to be taken literally — it is a metaphor, a parable crafted by Heaven for your heart.
Everyone Has a Story, but Not Everyone Knows Which Story They Are In
Think about that for a moment. You are the main character in a story already in motion. There is a hero's journey with your name on it, a quest, a calling, and a destiny. But too many of God's people are wandering through life uncertain of who they are, unsure of their purpose, feeling stuck between chapters.
The good news is that the Author of your story has not lost His pen.
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
The word 'handiwork' in Greek is poiema — where we get our English word 'poem.' You are God's poem. His masterpiece. You are not an accident, a rough draft, or an afterthought. You are a story He has been writing since before you were born.
A prophetic story simply helps you find the chapter you are in and gives you the courage to turn the page.
What This Means for You
In the coming issues, I want to introduce you to this fresh expression of the prophetic — how it works, why it is biblical, and how it has already changed the lives of real people who were stuck, discouraged, or simply hungry for more of God.
Here is my encouragement to you today: take a moment this week and ask the Father, 'What story am I in?' Be still. Open your Bible. Let the Holy Spirit speak. He loves to answer that question.
Psalm 139:16 says that God saw your unformed substance and that all your days were written in His book before one of them came to be. Your story is already written. It is time to discover it.
"Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them." Psalm 139:16 (ESV)
Friend, I believe God is about to open your eyes to the treasure hidden in your own story. Stay expectant.
