The word “agent” is defined as “a person who acts on behalf of another person or group” and “a person or thing that takes an active role or produces a specified effect” (such as an agent of change).
There are agents representing two different kingdoms at work in this world.
Whether we realize it or not, there is constant conflict between the kingdom of God and Satan’s kingdom, and we are caught in the middle. We may not see the actual spiritual forces battling and competing for the lives of people, but we can see the results. And it is becoming more and more apparent that the forces of evil are controlling more and more people who are yielding to darkness. Those of us in the light are standing out more and more also, as the darkness grows greater, our light, the light of Christ glows as a beacon.
It is most important to recognize that we are not fighting with people or circumstances, but with the wicked spirits that are behind all the warfare. In Ephesians 6:12, Paul says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The circumstances that arise to harass and intimidate us, and those people who persecute and oppose us, are motivated by wicked spirits. But Jesus has given us authority over all the power of the enemy! We can put a stop to the attack of the enemy in our own lives when we recognize it as such.
Fallen Angels and Demons
When Lucifer fell, he took one-third of the angels with him. These fallen angels now assist Satan in ruling his kingdom in much the same order as they assisted God in ruling His kingdom.
Satan not only has fallen angels working for him, but he also rules over other wicked spirits called demons. These demonic spirits, a pre-Adamic race, are used by satan to blind the minds of unbelievers and keep them from coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. They also oppress minds and bodies, bringing depression and sickness upon the human race. Their ultimate goal is to possess a human body and destroy that individual.
Satan hates us because we are God’s creation, created in His image and likeness. He still believes he can exalt himself above God by convincing God’s creation to serve him. If he cannot gain a convert, he will seek to convince a Christian to: (1) doubt God’s Word, (2) question God’s goodness, (3) walk in disobedience to God’s Will.
These are the same tactics Satan used to deceive the angels and then deceive Eve. Be wise to his tactics because they never change!
Even though there are agents of the kingdom of darkness assigned to keep you from knowing Jesus, there are agents of God’s kingdom assigned to see that you have the opportunity to hear about Jesus. These angels are also assigned to protect you.
It should be a comfort for us to know that we have a personal agent of God sent to “keep us in all our ways and bear us up in their hands, lest we dash our foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:11-12)
There are also wicked spirits which attach themselves to families. These spirits continue to oppress, even to the children and grandchildren.
You have probably seen this yourself: In families where the father is an alcoholic, the son becomes an alcoholic, and then his son also becomes an alcoholic. You can also see this with depression, suicide, insanity, sexual sins, and drug addiction.
When these spirits become familiar with a family, they do not want to leave. The bondage must be broken, and the demon’s assignment dismissed. Often, these demons become so firmly rooted that it takes much intercession and vigilance to keep them from returning.
The first step is to recognize the assignment and how it manifests itself. If you think that your family just has a “tendency” for this problem, the problem may never be dealt with. Recognize and expose these wicked spirits for what they are. Then you must rebuke them in Jesus’ Name and tell them to leave.
After you have done this, you must resist any attempt of that spirit to return. Always be aware that a spirit will try to return to its former habitation. But the Bible says if we resist the devil (or any evil spirit), he will flee in terror. (James 4:7) So be on your guard and resist!
Agents Over Cities and Nations
In the kingdom of darkness, there are wicked angels and high-ranking demon spirits that are assigned to rule over and manipulate cities and entire nations. Many times, I have driven into a city and felt the oppression of the enemy.
Religious spirits are ruling over some cities; in other cities, it is perversion. The city takes on the characteristic of the wicked spirit that is ruling there.
“And he said to me, ‘O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.’ While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling. Then he said to me, ‘Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia...’” (Daniel 10:11-13 NKJV)
The angel that appeared to Daniel as a result of his prayers informed him that he had been delayed because of the “prince of Persia.” This prince was not a man, for no man could withstand this angel of God. The prince of Persia was definitely a spirit being, and I believe it was a fallen angel.
Only another angel could be strong enough to require the assistance of Michael! Also, in verse 13, Michael is called “one of the chief princes,” which is the same Hebrew word used for the “prince of Persia.”
Here we see Michael, the archangel (an agent of God’s kingdom) actually came to help an angel who was hindered by the prince of the kingdom of Persia (an agent of Satan’s kingdom). This was one of satan’s high ranking agents who was controlling the geographic, political area of Persia.
These wicked spirits who rule over cities and nations can be dealt with through the authority of Jesus’ name and the prophetic anointing.
When an individual is walking in obedience to God to the extent that he or she is doing irreparable damage to Satan’s kingdom, he may send a “special assignment.” This agent, sent by the devil, will persecute, and stir up all kinds of trouble to hinder the servant of God.
In 2 Corinthians 12, we read that Paul was given a “thorn in the flesh.” Many people mistakenly suppose that this was a sickness sent by God to keep Paul humble. Actually, verse seven tells us that the “thorn” was a messenger (fallen angel) sent by satan to buffet Paul.
Everywhere Paul went, there was terrible persecution and trouble. Satan inspired religious people to try to kill Paul. He was stoned, shipwrecked, and beaten. All of this was not to keep him from becoming too proud. It was to keep him from spreading the Word of God throughout the earth! If there is an assignment against you, you must dismiss it in Jesus’ Name. You as a believer have authority over the enemy given to you by Jesus Himself!
Assignments Against Churches
Once a church begins to accomplish things for God, the enemy may work overtime to destroy it. I have seen countless churches where a spirit of strife has split the church. If that assignment doesn’t work, Satan may send a devilish doctrine and bring error into the church. Or he’ll tempt the pastor into sin and drag the church members down with him. We need to be alert to Satan’s devices! Don’t let these things in!
In Revelation 2, we see that God assigned an angel to each of the churches. Actually, the messages of these letters were given to the angel of the church as well as the body of believers.
If the church did not obey the message, the Spirit said, “I will remove your candlestick out of his place.” I believe that the candlestick that would be removed out of its place is the church that was addressed! The church would lose its position and the angels would be assigned elsewhere. Many churches have already lost their angel because of disobedience!
If a church does not fulfill what God has called it to do, does it provoke its angel and lose its destiny in the kingdom of God? Many churches began with the blessing and anointing of the Spirit upon them, but they have now lost their place through disobedience. The church is now dead and dry, and it seems their angel has departed.
Economic Oppression and Manipulation
Just as there are demonic spirits who seek to oppress and possess individuals, there are other agents of darkness in the hierarchy of Satan who seek to control corporations, governments, and other organizations on all levels in an attempt to control a large part of this world’s economic and political system.
Let’s look at this passage: “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.” (Deuteronomy 8:18)
Who will help establish God’s covenant in the earth? Is it not Christians through whom finances will flow to release God’s Word through the airways of television, radio, internet and cellular networks? Right now, you are reading the printed page published through the donations of Christian partners and businesses!
Satan does not want Christians to have money because they will spend it and give it in ways that will support the establishment of God’s kingdom. He can keep you financially oppressed and victimized if you believe his lies. But if a person or a corporation rises up and stakes their claim in the promise of God to prosper and bless, then finances flow to the kingdom of God. For this reason, whether you aspire to be wealthy or not, it is urgent that you demand satan take his hands off your finances to release God’s abundance.
His manipulation of the economic system of this world stops with you! Right now, declare:
Satan, take your hands off of my money! God supplies my needs and I have abundance to give according to Philippians 4:19. Take your hands off my family, off my city, and off my nation. I have authority in Jesus’ name according to Luke 10:19.
Now stand on the Word and don’t let him come back.
