A UK Teen Talks on the Benefits of Abstinence and Points Others to a Website that Supports It

All the team at the Celibrate organization believe that your virginity is something to be treasured, and they also want to bring together the many people out there who do live without sex, to show them that they are never alone if they choose to refrain from having any sexual activities.

Rebecca Reilly (August 2, 2007)

(Leicestershire, UK)-As a teenager, sex is all around me. It is in the papers, books, and also featured heavily on the big and small screen. I've heard about the risks of unwanted pregnancies, several STDs in the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) lessons at school here in the UK. In fact, everyone at my age, has, I'm sure.

Bearing in mind that it is illegal to have sex before you're sixteen in this country, some young teenagers still break this rule, by choice. At the age of thirteen and fourteen, about four in ten girls who have had their first sexual intercourse have said it was either unwanted or involuntary. And the other six percent...well, what can I say? Being fourteen myself, I have chosen to proudly keep my virginity, and will do so until I am happily married.

Celibrate is an organization that caters for those living without sex. This is a not-for-profit organization that aims to counteract the sexualization of our society and the harm this has done by providing support, encouragement and reassurance to everyone, regardless of age, background or faith, who is living without sex. Their motto is: No Sex, so what? All the team at the Celibrate organization believe that your virginity is something to be treasured, and they also want to bring together the many people out there who do live without sex, to show them that they are never alone if they choose to refrain from having any sexual activities. Looking through the website, I found many interesting facts, and I am pleased to know that I am not alone in what I choose.

Denise Pfeiffer, a freelance writer, set up the website www.celibrate.org to encourage others to consider a celibate lifestyle.

In an interview with the British Daily Mail, Denise who is a Christian, said: "When I was 15, I decided not to have sex before marriage. My friends spent hours reading teenage magazines full of stories about how to make yourself look sexy or how to have sex.

"I just didn't get excited about it like they did. In fact, the idea made me shudder. I didn't want to sleep with the first man who showed an interest in me, so I decided to save myself."

"By 22 I was so glad to have made that decision. Everyone I spoke to complained about their boyfriends - either they were unfaithful or they wanted to have sex too often. Many of my friends' relationships ended in tears and they were left heartbroken."

www.celibrate.org is a fantastic website, and whatever you choose to do in life, I advise you to spare a few minutes of your time, and have a look at it. And if you're a teenager like me, you might find this website influencing your choice in life-for good.
