For many years, I have had the unique experience, living with some of the most anointed senior prophets of our time. While in San Francisco in Dec 2010, I was told by one of the senior prophets that it was time to tell the stories. I do not hold to be a prophet, only a servant observer. Still, I assisted many through the years in their personal tragedies and God moments of victory. I shared their spiritual battles and warfare as well as their supernatural experiences and breakthrough.

Yes, prophets make mistakes. They are striving as we to honor God, set apart to live holy, separated to spend hours in His presence to listen carefully to His voice and reveal His heart to the Church.  This is some of what I learned. I dedicate this monologue to all that are striving to honor that call with this verse.

1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you.

Testing a Prophetic Word

Friends often ask, "How does one test or really know if a prophetic word is

   from the Holy Spirit?
   
   
2. 
   
   the flesh?
   
   
3. 
   
   or a contrary spirit?"earthly, unspiritual, demonic? 

Well, it might be best said, "if it sounds, smells, tastes and looks like the devil, it's the devil."

If it is all judgment, criticism and what is wrong with everyone and everything without God's Mercy and Redemption, it is someone needing the Holy Spirit to reveal His Love, Grace, Forgiveness and Redemption and in need of genuine prophetic ministry.

If it sounds, smells, tastes and has the look of the Holy Spirit revealing the heart of Jesus and the Father's Love in Redemption, Faithfulness, Forgiveness, Restoration and Grace it is the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately, not every word attached to, "Thus says the Lord" is from the Holy Spirit.  And people don't need to be believers to prophesy, especially gloom and doom. Any spirit can do that.  But to reveal the heart of God, you must be born again into His Love, Life and Spirit,  because the Father can only reveal His heart to those born into His Spirit and only sends the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus, His Son. John 14:26 And should the prophets fail to proclaim it, let the rocks cry out!

But there are Biblical guidelines and protocols to both test Holy Spirit led prophecy and activate Holy Spirit led prophecy, so that all may prophesy.  1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow after love, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

That is not to say that a prophet should be labeled a false prophet should they error. Rather, like Jonah (Jonah 4:9), we are all in the Father's boot camp and needing some Holy Spirit teaching, adjustment and understanding to get it right, so that all may learn to prophesy.

Holy Spirit led and anointed prophesy that REVEALS AS DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT just how awesome our God is.

1 Corinthians 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.  So much of learning what is the Holy Spirit is learning what is not the Holy Spirit.

There are 3 Parts to the Biblical Prophecy Test:

The FIRST IS THE NATURE TEST.  THE Holy Spirit written Scriptures is the manual to understand our God.

THE QUESTION IS, "IS IT THE NATURE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO SAY or DO THIS?" OR IS IT THE NATURE OF THE OTHER GUY?

WE ARE TOLD NOT TO GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT BY WHAT WE SAY.   GOD IS NOT FICKLE. WHAT HE SAYS TO YOU AND CONCERNING HIS NATURE, HE ALSO SAYS TO HIS PROPHETS.  One Speaking a word of prophecy is not the exemption to the rule, but rather the fundamental rule.

Ephesians 4:29-32 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister favor unto the hearers.  And grieve not the Holy Spirit of, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and (clamor) (rally others to prejudice), and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as  for the Messiah's sake hath forgiven you.

THE EARLY CHURCH ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH MISLED PROPHECY, THAT IS WHY THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID:

1 Corinthians 14:29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.

(TO PROTECT THE HOLY SPIRIT CHARGED ATMOSPHERE)

1 Corinthians 14:32 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.

(TO MAINTAIN THE INTEGRITY OF THE SPOKEN WORD IN THE NAME OF THE LORD THAT ITS IS FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT).

2 Corinthians 13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

(TO ESTABLISH AND PROVIDE CLEAR DIRECTION TO THE CHURCH FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT.)

James 3:17-18 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.  Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

(To Understand the Heart OF Jesus and the Father AS THEY SPEAK THROUGH THE Holy Spirit, who DOES not boast on Himself, but rather Jesus and the Father.)

1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 Corinthian 12:3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say,  "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

The content of both of these verses pertain to prophecy.

James 3:13-16 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.  But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.  Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.  For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

What is the Nature of God?

To Begin, the Spirit of Prophecy is and always will be The REVEALING THE HEART OF JESUS AND THE FATHER THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.  JOHN 16:13-16

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS REVEALING JESUS TO HIS BELOVED BRIDE, SO GET YOURSELF READY.  TO REVEAL ALL THAT HAS BEEN PROVIDED  TO THE SAINTS THROUGH THE CROSS AND IN THE BODILY RESURRECTION, ALL OF HIS MAJESTY, GLORY AND KINGDOM, AND WHAT HE HAS PROVIDED TO YOU AND I IN THE RESTORATION OF ALL THINGS SPOKEN BY THE PROPHETS SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN. Acts 3:21 & Ephesians 1 & 3

It covers all things, it has faith for all things, it hopes in all things, it endures in all things.  Love never falls in ruins; but whether prophecies, they will be abolished; or tongues, they will cease; or knowledge, it will be superseded. For we know in part and we prophecy in part. But when the perfect comes, the imperfect will be superseded.

When I was an infant, I spoke as an infant, I reckoned as an infant; when I became [an adult], I abolished the things of the infant.  For now we see through a mirror in an enigma, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know as also I was fully known.  But now remains faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

After All, God is Love.

The Holy Spirit Ministry of the Prophet

What it is and What it is Not.

1. 
   
   The Apostle Prophet, Evangelist Pastor and Teacher all perform the same task to the Church but execute that task by their individual gifting and call. The Gift of Prophet is to give a clear voice of direction to the church concerning its purpose and to release the individual deposit of God in each born-again, Holy Spirit filled believer to be empowered to do the work of the Kingdom. 

Through the seasons, the focus may change as the revelation of Jesus and His design for the Church becomes more complete. Rev 2 & 3

Eph 4:11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,

   The Purpose of The Revelatory Gift of Prophet is to Equip And Empower The Church 

Eph 4:12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (empowered/ To charge like a battery).

3. 
   
   The Purpose of The Revelatory Gift of Prophet is to Emerge The Church Into The Unity of (The Noun Faith in the Knowledge of the full revelation of Jesus  (The Prophetic Voice is About Him) Rev 19:10 and releasing what He is doing and saying to His Church.   

Eph 4:13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God

4. 
   
   The Purpose of The Revelatory Gift of Prophet is to  Bring the Church into individual and corporate Maturity in the fullness of all that is and belongs to Christ  

Eph 4: (continued v 13) and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

5. 
   
   The Purpose of The Revelatory Gift of Prophet is to Lay a Firm Foundation In All That Pertains To God and His Kingdom, So That We Are Able To Discern What Truly and Truthfuly Comes From The Holy Spirit And What Does Not. 

Eph 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.

6. 
   
   The Purpose of The Revelatory Gift of Prophet is so that the entire Body May Continue to Be and Walk Holy  in The Nature of God,  

Ephesians 1 & 3,  which is The God Kind Of Love, free from Issues, Disallowance, Broken Relationships, Woundedness, Sin, Buttons the enemy uses to manipulate us, And Every area in our lives that say NO to the Love of Christ and the Father.

After all God is Holy and the Holy Spirit's first name is Holy and The Holy Spirit has said be Holy As I am Holy. And all the scriptures were given to us by Holy Men of God.

Eph 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

7. 
   
   The Purpose of The Revelatory Gift of Prophet is to Release the Full Deposit in the Church Into Fullness to the Increase of God that only Comes Through The Release of His Deposit in Every Individual. 

Eph 4:16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. So that we do not remain in the dead life before we were Born Again.

What the Office of the Prophet is Not

Eph 4:17-32 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.  They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.  That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.  You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 

Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

The Voice of the Prophet may Extend Outside the Church to the World 

2 Corinthians 5:17-20 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: (The old has gone, the new is here!)  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

A Prophetic Birth, A Prophetic Promise 35 AD

On the day of Pentecost, the Church of Jesus Christ was born. Jesus commanded His disciples, "Wait at Jerusalem until you are endowed with (power baptized) by the Holy Spirit from on high." As Jesus said, the Holy Spirit that had been with you will now live in you and remain with you, empowering you to be my witnesses to every tongue, people, tribe and nation wherever you go."

The disciples had seen the resurrected Christ after His bodily resurrection. Still Jesus told them they needed more. Ten days of seeking the Lord brought the remaining one-hundred-and-twenty to exhaustion. Yet, suddenly in a moment, an outpour of refreshing opened from heaven, flooding into their soul and in and out of their bellies. The very Person of the Living God, living in them.

As, written, "they seemed as those consumed with wine by all that observed them." The multitudes were unable to comprehend what had happened. Yet, pricked to their hearts and the awareness of the unusual God Glory, Presence, they received the message as foretold by the Prophet Joel believing the testimony concerning Jesus and His death, burial and resurrection that transformed them into new birth and fire, all hearing in their own language.

Since Genesis, the revealing of their coming Messiah and His Kingdom had been foretold by a handful of chosen prophets. Now, the revelation would be noised abroad in power and in demonstration by all who were Holy baptized; an entire army of fiery, Holy Spirit filled prophets, from every race, color, age and gender; all revealing the Father, Jesus and the Kingdom; birthing more and more prophets filled with the Holy Spirit of God; Old prophetic men, young men and His maidens; dreamers, visionaries and youngster prophets and prophetesses. The Prophetic Voice was a fundamental revelation on the Birth Day of Pentecost destined to reveal Jesus and all that He has given and provided to the Church. This promise would remain to every generation as many as the Lord would call until the end of the age .

Azusa Street Revival 1906 AD

In the early years of the 1900′s in Los Angeles, California, a great Holy Spirit outpouring began on April 14th in a small living room on Bonnie Brae Street where it might have remained if not that the front porch collapsed shortly after as many pressed to hear and see this unexplainable God thing through this small group and the black man that covered His head over in a box to draw attention away from himself to release only what the Holy Spirit was doing and saying. So great was the stir of the Holy Spirit power that the street soon filled with thousands waiting to hear and see what God was doing.

The word moved quickly as thousands slept on the streets to get a glimpse of Brother William Seymour and receive the power of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that continually left visitors drunk in the Spirit, stumbling on the streets for hours. Brother Seymour and the small band of Holy Spirit filled followers soon needed room to accommodate the hundreds, sometime thousands of visitors that waited day and night to get close enough to the little house. They soon occupied a facility on Azusa Street, giving rise to the name, The Azusa Street Mission Revival.

The word of this God visitation spread rapidly across the United States of America. As the gold rush summoned many to the expectation of riches in San Francisco, God did not disappoint those that came from around the globe to receive a touch from the Holy Spirit in a poverty striken, homeless community in L.A.  They had come for a trickle of water and instead received a river gushing from their bellies. Rich and poor alike; White, black and every collor in between: Endowed with the power and the fullness of the Holy Ghost.

They returned to their hamlets, gathering believers and sharing what had happened. They were pleasantly surprised to find that as they gave testimony to the events, others received this Holy Spirit experience. As a result, Holy Spirit filled believers began to gather in homes all across America, making great, anointed preachers out of no-name, no-bodies. Other prior revivals had stirred the intellect of man. This revival was an external display of Holy Ghost power and His work in them.

Men and women were shaken, speaking in unknown tongues and prophesying, seeing visions, angels and receiving deep God experiences, moving in the gifts and revelation of the Spirit and imparting the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to others. Many seeking the deeper things of God were excommunicated from denominational churches that had enjoyed previous restoration revival movements.

The central doctrine of this new Pentecostal movement was the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in an unknown tongue. Many new Pentecostal denominations began to rise shortly after. The new movement emphasized the Pentecost experience at the birth of the early Church and the completion of the great commission to go to the world and tell every creature.

Again, God was moving amidst His people from glory to glory and restoration to restoration, preparing the Bride for His Son's coming. The Revelatory Prophetic Voice emerged again as it had in the early church revealing God's heart and all that pertains to us through Jesus and The Kingdom.

When One Prophesies, let them Disengage the filters above to allow the Holy Spirit to Speak apart from our agenda, issues, prejudices or filters.  He is after all the Holy Spirit of Truth.
