Moses began with the fear of the
Lord. Then He met the God of grace. The jailor of Paul and Silas came first
trembling and then Paul told him that if he would believe he would be saved.
First the fear of the Lord and then the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We need
to follow the order of our Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of
wisdom. This means if we do not fear the Lord we will not have real wisdom.
The fear of the Lord is not just
respect. It is trembling fear. A fear that cleanses you. A fear that keeps you
from doing evil. Imagine what this fear could do in your life! You would be
afraid to commit any sin and wanted to obey every commandment! It is a divine
fear. It is not demonic!
This fear is the same fear that
the tomb keepers experienced as they saw the angels at the grave of Jesus.
Difference Between Fear and Reverence
Reverence is not the same. There
is a difference even made in Hebrews
12:28, Wherefore
we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may
serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
We can clearly see the difference
between reverence and godly fear.
Jeremiah 5:22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my
presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual
decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves,
yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Cannot this consuming fire
provoke some fear in us? Cannot it make us tremble? As I meditated on the fear of the
Lord I realized that this revelation would change us a lot. We would not criticize our Lord
for what He is doing but would rather thank Him in godly fear. Another positive aspect is that
we would not have any other fear anymore. We can only fear one God!
2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us
cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the fear of God.
In the fear of God we will be
cleansed. Let us pursue this fear of God to perfect holiness!
1Peter 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons
judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in
fear.
We pass our time of sojourning
here in fear.
Love One Another
Ephesians 5:21 Submit yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
We will be willing to submit
ourselves, because we do not look too much to our pride but in fear we obey the
commandment of God to love one another and to humble ourselves and to think of
the other one higher than ourselves.
Proverbs 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour,
and life.
You will get honour. Healing of
your wounds are included in this. Honour of men and God. Many of our wounds are
still effecting us, because we cannot let go of anger towards men and God. If
we would fear God, these wounds and this anger would be taken care of.
You will experience real abundant
life, because you give God all the glory.
Revelation 14:6-7 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having
the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to
every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice,
Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and
worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of
waters.
An eternal gospel can never be
changed. It was always the same and will be always the same.
The Whole Duty of Man
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and
keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
This is very strong. The
conclusion of the whole matter is to fear God and be obedient to Him. This is
the whole duty of man.
Psalm 112:1-10 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD,
that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright
shall be blessed. 3. Wealth and riches
shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth forever. 4. Unto the upright there ariseth light in
the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. 5. A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he
will guide his affairs with discretion. 6.
Surely he shall not be moved forever: the righteous shall be in everlasting
remembrance. 7. He shall not be afraid
of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. 8. His heart is established, he shall not be
afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies. 9. He hath dispersed, he hath given to the
poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with
honour. 10. The wicked shall see it, and
be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the
wicked shall perish.
You will be Blessed
Is this not amazing? So many
blessings for fearing the Lord.
I believe I know now why the
devil tried to steal the fear of the Lord from us. There are about 365 verses about
fearing Him. Let us ask the Lord to give us the spirit of the fear of the Lord
(Isaiah 11:2-3). He said if we would ask us for Holy Spirit that He would
gladly give us His Spirit.
Amen!
