Our good friends, Brian and Nicole McConville, served as our associate pastors for almost seven years. They joined our ministry about a year and a half after my wife and I had planted our church, Word of Life Christian Center. They had felt called by God to full time ministry after becoming a part of our local church. It has been our privilege to train and equip them as they have unselfishly sacrificed everything in their lives in order to serve God and His people. They've been our armor bearers and we have learned to trust them with our lives. It has been a joy to serve the Lord with such good friends!For several years Brian and Nicole tried to have children without any success. Our church continually rallied around them in prayer as they continued to stand in faith, trusting God at His Word for children, regardless of the appearance of their circumstances. Nicole testifies to their experience saying:
"Ever since I can remember it was my dream to be a mommy. I love children and could not wait to have some of my own. The day I was married I felt closer to that dream than ever before in my life. Although my husband did not feel ready to have children right away, we never took any precautions to prevent a pregnancy. After three years without a baby in sight we began to question whether something was wrong with us."
The Peace of God
"When seeking the Lord in prayer, I felt a peace from the Lord to go and see a doctor regarding our situation. I went to a specialist who performed several tests, including ultrasounds, which concluded that I was in excellent physical shape to have a baby. Brian was also tested, proving that he was physically healthy and able to biologically produce children. As a result, the doctor began to talk with us about our options in conceiving a baby. As we continued to seek the Lord in prayer I felt God's peace as He spoke to my heart to just trust in Him."
"Over the next few years we received prophetic word after prophetic word about having children. The Lord knew just how to help encourage us to continue to put our trust in Him. These words always served as a confirmation to the things the Lord had already spoken to us in our special private times with Him. In one of those times God told me that we would have a son and to name him Judah, 'Praise to God.'"
"The appearance of our circumstances continued to contradict God's Word during this season. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia resulting in chronic pain and fatigue. Many times I was totally incapacitated, but I did not stop seeking the Lord for healing. One day while I was praying, Jesus told me to stop taking any medication. He was delivering and healing me from any sickness and disease in order to prepare my body for a child."
The Manifestation of God's Promises
"On January 1, 2005, the Holy Spirit told me that I was healed and set free! I felt better physically and began to sleep through the night for the first time in months. At my next doctor's appointment it was a joy for me to share my testimony of being healed. I told my doctor about the promise I received from God about conceiving a child. He responded by saying, 'I'll see you in a few months when you're pregnant!' In May of 2005, I became pregnant with our miraculous son, Judah Grant McConville! I know that each life is miraculous, but to experience this firsthand has been so amazing. God literally spoke our son into being!"
Brian and Nicole had been experiencing the manifestation of the promises of God through the birth of their new son for eight weeks when they noticed that a skin deformity had developed on top of Judah's head. They brought him to a doctor, who diagnosed a pin sized opening that went from the top of his head down into his skull, possibly containing a cyst or tumor that could cause meningitis. Judah needed to have surgery to fix the defect, but would have to wait another month before it could be scheduled.
During the next thirty days Brian and Nicole continued to put their trust in God on behalf of their son. One day they heard the Lord say, "Judah will have to go through the surgery, but I will take care of Him!" As promised, God protected Judah in surgery. Afterwards the surgeon told them that the opening in Judah's head appeared to penetrate his skull resulting in a seventy five percent chance that he would need to have brain surgery in the near future. Six months later Judah was to return for a follow-up exam, including an MRI.
Hearing the Words of God
In the meantime, Brian and Nicole continued to pray that Jesus would heal their son. During this time the Lord told them, "I will make it apparent to everyone, including the doctors, that I have healed Judah!" In the natural this seemed impossible to them. The doctors had already told them that an MRI would only reveal problems of more growth. It would not be able to reveal any progress toward healing.
They knew that they served a creative God, but wondered how He would make Judah's healing apparent to everyone. After completing the MRI at the follow-up exam, the surgeon met with Brian and Nicole to review Judah's medical file with them. The doctor began to awkwardly explain that he had remembered doing the surgery in this case and seeing an opening that penetrated the skull. Now in reviewing the MRI the doctor could not see any indication of an opening that still existed in Judah's skull. Nicole said that it was as if someone was literally giving the doctor the words to speak as he proclaimed, "I would have to say Judah is healed!"
