Three Foundational Scriptures of the Faith System

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) says; "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." So first of all we have faith, and then we must believe, but what is that?

The online YOURDictionary.com portrays the word, "faith" is a noun, as unquestioning belief that does not require proof or evidence, unquestioning belief in God, religious tenets, etc., and complete trust, confidence, or reliance. The Merriam-WebsterDictionary.com tells us the word "believe" is a verb, meaning; to have a firm religious faith, to accept something as true, or genuine, or real.  YOURDictionary.com says; to feel sure of the truth of, to be convinced by trust, to have confidence in as being true, real, good.  Now with those definitions in mind let's look at the other two scriptures.

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) tells us; "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" and Hebrews 10:38 (ASV) says, "But my righteous one shall live by faith and if he shrinks back my soul has no pleasure in him."

All of our faith teachings are based on these three scriptures and though there are many other scriptures that speak of faith, these three speak of the necessity of having faith in God.  Without faith one cannot please God.  We can believe in God, give to God, do the work of God, and be hospitable to the people of God; but if we do not believe that the Word of God is as true and applicable today as it was when it was written, we will be greatly handicapped in our relationship with God.

The Faith Journey

This brings me to the purpose of this writing.  Starting a number of years ago, my husband and I began what I now call "our faith journey."  I remember the faith movements of the 60s, 70s, and the first half of the 80s.  In my Pentecostal upbringing, it was thought as a HUGE STRETCH when we were associated with the charismatic movement.  Beyond that though, it was considered an insult to be thought of as part of the faith movement, after all we were much too grounded and balanced to live by anything other than what you could hold in your hand.  It was offensive to be considered a part of the "Blab it and Grab it or Name it and Claim it" group of believers.

Truly, I am not picking on any particular group of believers, but the truth is, many of us were without the revelation of what faith is all about.  However, God in his infinite mercy keeps taking us from glory to glory, and from revelation to revelation.  Faith is not something we use to get something we want or need, but faith is the foundation that our relationship with our heavenly Father is built on.  Without faith, there is NO relationship.  The more that was revealed to me the more I understood the necessity for using my faith in my HEAVENLY FATHER.

In the darkest times of our lives when we can see no way out, faith is our flashlight. Because we believe, then we can say with the psalmist, "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) Faith is the battery that causes the Word of God to work; without faith the Word has no power.  It's like what Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:5 (NIV) "having a form of godliness but denying its power."

Faith in God will provide, sustain, heal, deliver, protect and give you hope and peace when there is no natural reason for any of these.  Even when death comes to these earthen vessels, faith in God will take care of those who remain.  During my personal faith journey, I am discovering the comfort of having faith in my heavenly father. When my husband and I got to the end of everything we thought to be permanent, when every seed that we had planted in the name of the Father seemed to be dead, when we were no longer identifiable even to ourselves, I discovered that my true self was locked safely into the identity of my heavenly Father.

Don't Try to do it Yourself

The greater our revelation of faith, the more we can truly rest in God when what we are believing for is SO IMPOSSIBLE.  It was Abraham's faith in God that sustained his belief in what God had promised him, "Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God." Romans 4:20 (NIV) Abraham kept believing when all he had left was his faith in God.  It is easier to believe when you think you have something to contribute to the fulfillment of what you are believing for.  We see this example in the story of Abraham producing Ishmael when his body still had the power to do so, but that action disqualified Ishmael from being the promised heir.  We can never take credit for the impossible, that credit belongs only to our heavenly Father.

This IS THE SEASON OF GOD & EXTRODINARY MANIFESTATIONS will start being seen on a daily bases; it will no longer be something we read about in the Old Testament or even something we heard happened in a foreign country, but these happenings will happen through us, the manifested sons and daughters of God. Faith is not something we take on and off like a garment, but it flows in and out through us like the oxygen we breathe. Because of our faith in our heavenly Father, we are no longer moved by what we DO NOT SEE but will change the UNSEEN into the SEEN. Understanding what faith truly is gives us the ultimate freedom. We are no longer limited or dependent on our own physical abilities.

A Wonderful Revelation

Looking back over my life I have come to realize that unbelief was my greatest hindrance. It was not sickness, financial worries, relationship difficulties or the occasional identity crisis; but it was the lack of revelation of in whom I believed. When what we have believed for seems to go unanswered or we get the total opposite of what we expected, we can be assured that the Father will cause us to triumph even in our momentary disappointment.

Father gave me a wonderful revelation some years ago about unanswered prayers.  I had been waiting and waiting for a particular prayer to be answered.  My need was great and the delayed answer was like salt in my wound, and to be honest, I was offended at the Father's seeming neglect of my need.  He quietly spoke to my spirit and said, "Trusting in me is like being on a conveyer belt, the only way you cannot get your prayers answered is if you get off the conveyer belt." He then said "that conveyer belt is your relationship and trust in Me, and the conveyer belt will sometimes pass by the very place you thought you were supposed to be; but I have something so much greater than what you were asking for. JUST TRUST ME." I have not forgotten what he spoke to me, and I have hung on tightly to that revelation, it has greatly helped me in my faith journey.  With the eyes of a Seer and the anointing of Issachar I now understand why there has been so much delay for the body of Christ.  The answers Father gives us will be for SUCH A TIME AS THIS.  Father will give us FAR GREATER than what we have asked for.

So BE ENCOURAGED my brothers and sisters in Christ! This is THE SEASON OF GOD and His CHILDREN WILL BE BLESSED!
