Identity Theft by Georgina Buchanan

Modern technology offers so many wonderful comforts and benefits. For example, here it is late into the evening and I am curled up in the middle of my bed with a lap piled high with pillows and an iPad perched in the middle. With this 8"x10" screen and its virtual keyboard I cannot only express my thoughts and feelings, but through this wonderful technology I can share them with you. With this convenient handheld device, I can go anywhere, at any time, and yet be as connected with anyone, or anywhere in the world as if it were sitting right here next to me.

Modern Technology - the Good, the Bad...

No this is not an advertisement for the iPad, but it is a commentary on how easy communications have become.  However, with every advancement, there are always drawbacks. One drawback would be, the more we communicate by Wi-Fi, the more we are exposed. At the touch of a button I can check my emails, text messages, missed phone calls, and unfortunately if not properly protected, so can anyone else. I can also check my bank balance, transactions and any other financial needs I might have just by touching a button on my cell phone, another technological marvel.  I can eat, sleep, drive, shop and even play and never be more than one simple touch away from well, almost everything.

...The Ugly

Who would have ever thought that the most pertinent information about our lives could be contained on some tiny little diodes concealed within a small device and carried around in a pocket or a purse? Lose your phone - lose your life so to speak.

That is what the enemy of our soul has done. He has stolen our spiritual identity. That is what he did to Adam and Eve in the garden. He could not change who God had created them to be; however, he could, and did, get them to doubt who God had made them to be.

The Ransom! Abba our Father

Now we have hope and victory because God used his only son Jesus to pay the ransom for our stolen identity. We did not stop being God's creation, but we took on the nature of our capture. That was the first case of identity theft.  The only identity Satan has, (I personally call him "ole stupid") is the one he steals from us. Through the blood of Jesus we were ransomed, set free and returned to our heavenly "Abba our Father," God.

"For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."  Romans 8:15-16 (NKJV) Another extended translation of this same verse that brings great joy to me is found in the MESSAGE BIBLE, Rom 8:15-17

"This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike "What's next, Papa?"  God's Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children.  And we know we are going to get what's coming to us - an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we're certainly going to go through the good times with him!" (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. Now this is Our Identity

The body of Christ is finally understanding who we really are. We are the sons and daughters of the most high God. Jesus, while on earth always knew his real identity. When challenged, he never wavered because he knew who his "Abba Father" was. We have that same "Abba our Father". We are of the same bloodline. Though we are there by adoption, (Romans 8:15) we are joint heirs with Christ. (Romans 8:17) We have the very same rights that Jesus has.

I cannot help but wonder if we really knew who we were, would we spend so much time in fear and unbelief?  No matter what physical circumstances Jesus faced he never doubted who his "Abba Father" was. We are no longer wondering around, trying to figure out who we are and where we belong. We are blood bought, grafted-in heirs of "EL ELYON" the Most High God!

"I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you.  For you have upheld my right and my cause." Psalms 9:1-4 (NIV)

My identity is theft proof. How about yours?
