I’ve been hearing in my spirit lately, “It’s time to come down from the stage and go into the fields.” I understand simply by making that statement it has the potential to be misunderstood. I’m not in any way suggesting we should not be gathering ourselves together in our buildings, whether they be of the traditional type or within homes, etc. We are the Church, and the Word clearly tells us not to forsake gathering with one another that we may inspire, encourage and learn from one another. In fact, I believe it’s vital that we continue to come together in Him (in person) as much as possible.
Hebrews 10:25 “This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together, as some have formed the habit of doing. In fact, we should come together even more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward as we anticipate that day dawning.”
Quite possibly, we’ve kept ourselves, as the Church within the walls of the so-called church building for too long. We’ve been isolated amongst ourselves in the safety of the walls of our buildings. Please don’t think I’m preaching at anyone because I’m as guilty as they come with this. So, maybe, just maybe, I’m hearing what I’m hearing only for myself, or maybe what I’m hearing for myself is also what you are hearing whispered into the depths of your heart and this will become as confirmation to you. As you receive your confirmation it is my prayer you may step into the newness of this season with boldness.
Not everyone will be able to discern what the Lord is doing differently in this hour and not everyone will understand when they see us doing something other than what they are comfortable with us doing, but that’s okay because we’re not seeking man’s approval but rather the Lord’s. Keep in mind, Jesus’s ministry didn’t look like those who’d gone before Him. Nor did it look like the religious leader’s ministry. He was seen keeping company with the common people of the area, in the public places and it was in those times that He carried out the greatest portions of His ministry.
Isaiah 55:8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
Salt and Light
Are we not to be salt and light to a dark world? How do we become that salt and light to a world that we don’t dare walk among? The Spirit of the Lord is beckoning us in this time, in this season, and for a genuine purpose, to make His presence known to a world that needs to see, hear, and know Jesus. Why send us? Because He is within us and by seeing and hearing us in the marketplaces, in our communities, in the schools, in the factories perhaps, or wherever each one of us is being called, and being sent, they – the world, will also see and hear Him - through us.
Matthew 5:14-16 “Your lives light up the world. For how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop? And who would light a lamp and then hide it in an obscure place? Instead, it’s placed where everyone in the house can benefit from its light. So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that your commendable works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.”
Earlier in 2021, I began to hear the Holy Spirit ever so subtly speak to me, telling me to stop looking back at how I did things previously because He was leading me into something new. He ministered to me that I most certainly could not step into the fullness of what this new thing is if I was turned around, still trying to keep a grip onto what I knew formerly but was no longer called to be a part of in the same manner. Have you ever tried to step away from doing something in a way you’ve known to do it your entire life and try to learn to do something completely different? Completely unlike what you’ve ever even seen or experienced before? It’s a challenge to say the least. I talked with the Lord (prayed) and asked Him, how will I know what I’m supposed to do or even how to do it when I’ve never seen it or done it before? In the depths of my being, I heard His voice speak, “Just keep walking forward. Just keep moving forward, putting one foot in front of the other and keep following Me and I will lead you straight into it.” So, I did. And He did.
Psalm 32:8-9 "I hear the Lord saying, ‘I will stay close to you, instructing and guiding you along the pathway for your life. I will advise you along the way and lead you forth with my eyes as your guide.’”
So don’t make it difficult; don’t be stubborn when I take you where you’ve not been before. Don’t make me tug you and pull you along. Just come with me!”
Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
For those of us who have spent time in organized ministry, we tend to have a mindset of what ministry is supposed to look like. We sometimes think the only important part of it takes place behind a podium, or behind a camera, or in front of a congregation.
Ministry to a Lost World
Oftentimes when I hear the word ‘ministry,’ the description I just gave in the previous sentence, is what first and foremost comes to my mind. And yes, ministry to the Body of Christ often has that appearance. But what does ministry to a lost world look like? The lost world is not attending our meetings and our bible studies or conferences so how do we minister Christ to a lost world? Invite them to church? That’s what we’ve been told to do for most of our lives, isn’t it? I’m not so sure I’ve read the scriptures where the disciples went out and invited the lost and dying people to church so they could hear the truth. But I do believe I’ve read the scriptures where they went out into the world like sheep amongst the wolves to tell the world of the good news of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 10:16 “Now, remember, it is I who sends you out, even though you feel vulnerable as lambs going into a pack of wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes yet as harmless as doves.”
Do you suppose the gifts and talents we’ve been given might be the very avenues the Lord might move through as we are sent out, being full of His presence, to take the good news to a lost and dying world?
Colossians 3: 23 Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others.
The fields are ripe for the harvest, so NOW is the time to step down from the stage and go into the fields to reap the harvest of all harvests.
John 4:35 Do you not say, “There are still four months and then comes the harvest?” Behold, I say to you, “Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!”
