Many of us are familiar with this beautiful promise from Isaiah 60:
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD shines over you.
For look, darkness will cover the earth,
and total darkness the peoples;
but the LORD will shine over you,
and his glory will appear over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to your shining brightness.
Isaiah 60:1–3 CSB
Wouldn’t it be amazing to actually live this way—shining with His glory, walking in His peace, bringing light and hope wherever we go? ✨
This is the Lord’s heart for us, even in the midst of challenges and uncertainty.
But how do we lay hold of this promise and truly begin to arise and shine?
The answer is found just one verse earlier: “My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, will not depart from your mouth” (Isa. 59:21 CSB).
Did you catch that?
We arise and shine not by our own efforts, but by stepping into what the Lord has already made possible through His finished work—His Spirit upon us, and His words in our mouth.
That’s exactly what happens when we pray in the Spirit! We allow the Holy Spirit to pray through us with words He supplies, instead of drawing from our own understanding. And as we do, something powerful happens.
The Bible says, “he who speaks in a tongue edifies himself” (1 Cor. 14:4). That word “edify” means to build a house. And not just any house, but our entire being—spirit, soul, and body.
Each time you pray in the Spirit, the Lord builds you up from the inside out—strengthening you with His might, filling you with His wisdom, anchoring you in His peace. And as you’re built up… you begin to shine with His glory.
So, Beloved, if you want to arise and shine in your family…
In your workplace…
In this generation…
Start by praying in the Spirit.
Whether it’s on your morning drive to work, under your breath before that big meeting, or in the quiet, in-between moments, take time to pray in the Spirit today. Let His Spirit flow through you, and His glory shine through every part of your life.
