My dad was known for his practical teaching and the down-to-earth stories that he told about fishing and talking to houses and land. In the greater scheme of things, these stories don't seem particularly significant. But this is exactly how he broke free of the religious traditions, teachings, and doctrines of men. God's Word is practical. The Word of God, the Bible, is not meant to be worshipped or confined to a church or religious institution.

My dad was known for his practical teaching and the down-to-earth stories that he told about fishing and talking to houses and land. In the greater scheme of things, these stories don’t seem particularly significant. But this is exactly how he broke free of the religious traditions, teachings, and doctrines of men. God’s Word is practical. The Word of God, the Bible, is not meant to be worshipped or confined to a church or religious institution. It is meant to instruct, teach, and guide in all the affairs of life. At home … at work … in relationships … It is to be spoken … and acted upon.
When we stop looking at the Bible as a book to be revered and start doing what it says, that is when God’s power is manifest, and circumstances begin to change. It doesn’t do much good to sit in church and talk religious talk if we are not daily using the principles God gave to us.
Using these scriptural principles to exercise dominion over and catch fish is not that important in the long run (unless you are hungry!). But exercising dominion and the authority we have been given in everything we are doing day and night reminds us of who we are and who God created us to be.
Speaking to houses to sell and speaking to the dirt of land to be sold works! It also works when fishing. I know. I have done it, and I have watched these principles work for my dad and many others. We receive many testimonies of people who have sold property that way. They accepted God’s Word as true and acted upon it.
The teaching this month is to remind us of our dominion and who we were created to be. It can be easy to lapse into the negative patterns of the world, so even I need to be reminded that we are “above and not beneath.” We are the “head and not the tail.”
“And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” (Deuteronomy 28:13)
Are you a doer of the Word? Are you acting on the promises of the covenant? Dominion doesn’t just happen; it has to be enforced with our words and actions. Use your dominion today and speak to the circumstances that are encroaching on your rights as an heir of God!

Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." We all know that we should think on good things that are positive and uplifting. Unfortunately, it was easier for Paul to write than for us to practice. The question is, "How can I habitually think good thoughts?

You may be walking through a "dry place" in your life, perhaps having a difficult time⦠a time when it seems that all your opportunities have dried up. It appears that your financial needs are not being met, and your future looks bleak. You may even feel like your prayers are not being heard. Circumstances rise up against you and you don't see a way out. Such were the circumstances in Samaria in 2 Kings 6:24-30: The entire city was in severe famine being surrounded by the armies of the king of Syria who was determined to destroy them. The enemy wanted to take their city and possessions. They could not leave the city to trade or get food from the fields or goods.

There is a belief that at one time or other has affected most humans on earth. It comes in the form of a thought, "I am only one person and what I do does not matter." That could translate into "My vote does not matter. Everyone else will vote." It could also be, "Why should I speak up when I see an injustice. No one will listen." Degenerating further, this belief lends itself to the suggestion, "No one will know. This is not a big deal."
