Defeating Deception by Randy Gladden

By Randy Gladden
We have a very real enemy. Though he cannot take from us what God has given, he can steal - and his primary weapon is deception. He doesn't have authority over your destiny, your calling, or your inheritance in Christ. But he will do everything in his power to get you to forfeit them. The enemy steals by planting seeds of doubt, discouragement, and distraction. He deceives us into thinking that God's promises are uncertain, His voice is unclear, and our dreams are insignificant.

We have a very real enemy. Though he cannot take from us what God has given, he can steal - and his primary weapon is deception. He doesn’t have authority over your destiny, your calling, or your inheritance in Christ. But he will do everything in his power to get you to forfeit them.

The enemy steals by planting seeds of doubt, discouragement, and distraction. He deceives us into thinking that God’s promises are uncertain, His voice is unclear, and our dreams are insignificant. If he can convince us to surrender, he doesn’t have to fight us - because we’ve already surrendered.

But you are not called to be passive victims of deception. You are a Kingdom warrior - called to stand, to believe, and to overcome. And more than that, you are called to be a living demonstration of God's goodness - proof to the world that He is faithful, generous, powerful, and full of mercy.

Here are four battlegrounds where we must defeat deception to walk in sustained victory:

1. Stand on God’s Promises

God’s promises are not just nice ideas – they are divine gifts from a commitment-keeping Father. Each one is a personal expression of His heart toward you. They are meant to be possessed, not pondered. They are intended to be lived out, not left behind.

His Word is always true, eternal, and unshakable. Every promise is "yes and amen.” But to receive a promise isn’t passive - it’s an act of authoritative appropriation. You must reach out in faith and take hold of what God has already made available.

Often, there is a challenging gap between the promise and the manifestation. That gap is the proving ground of faith. It’s in that space that the enemy will try to whisper, “Maybe it wasn’t God’s will.” But just because we haven’t seen the result yet doesn’t mean the promise is void.

Your refusal to let go of God’s promise turns your life into a living testimony. You become the evidence that God keeps His Word. You reflect His faithfulness, and His goodness is seen through you.

2. Walk Out God’s Direction

When God speaks - through His Word or by His Spirit - it is a divine setup for advancement. But often, the moment you obey, chaos erupts. That’s not proof you missed God; it’s confirmation that you’re on assignment.

Obedience provokes resistance. That’s why journaling what God has said matters. Write it down. Date it. Revisit it. Because when your current reality looks nothing like your revelation, you need an anchor of what God said and why it still stands.

As you walk in response, even when it’s hard, you model what it looks like to trust God in the storm. Your endurance puts His faithfulness on display.

3. Nurture God-Given Dreams

God doesn’t just give direction – He places deep desires in our hearts. Dreams that align with your purpose, calling, and Kingdom impact. But deception tempts us to either cling too tightly or forget them entirely.

Hold your dreams with an open hand. Not because God wants to take them, but because He wants to refine and multiply them. What you see now is only a glimpse. God does exceedingly, abundantly above all we ask or imagine. Let Him grow your vision beyond the limits of your current perspective.

Your dreams, when fulfilled, become the demonstration of His glory through your life. When people see your dreams come to pass, they will recognize that you are called by the name of the Lord.

4. Rule in Your Place of Dominion

You are not where you are by accident. Your current assignment, whether permanent or temporary, modest or profound, is your territory. God expects you to walk in dominion there. That means accepting responsibility and releasing His presence, changing atmospheres, and leading with Kingdom authority.

Don’t underestimate your impact. Jesus said, “Let your peace rest upon that place.” That wasn't symbolic. It was a spiritual reality. You carry the fragrance of Christ, and your presence shifts environments.

Wherever God places you, He intends for your life to be evidence of His goodness. You become the proof that God is present, that He restores, that He empowers, and that He reigns.

You Are the Proof

The enemy will never stop trying to deceive. He’ll use discouragement, delay, and distraction. But you were not left defenseless. You were equipped with truth. You were filled with God’s Spirit. And you were positioned for impact.

Refuse to surrender your promises – they were gifts from God.

Refuse to doubt your direction – it is part of your testimony.
Refuse to bury your dreams – they are meant to glorify God.

Refuse to diminish your dominion. – possess what’s promised, and reign with purpose.

Defeat deception by standing in truth, walking in faith, allowing God to shape your deepest desires, and reign with purpose.

And above all, remember: You are called to be a living demonstration of God’s goodness. Your story is how heaven invades earth. Your life is how God reveals Himself to the world.

Your inheritance is secure.

Your victory is assured.

Now take hold of it.
