The Power of Presence: How Carrying God's Peace Can Shift Atmospheres and Bless Nations by Randy Gladden

When Jesus sent out His disciples, He gave them clear, practical instructions: Heal the sick, cast out demons… But there was something else—something often overlooked yet incredibly powerful. He told them: "Let your peace rest on the home you enter." This wasn't a casual gesture. It was a spiritual impartation—a divine connection to the living God being extended to whoever received them. This peace wasn't mere calm. It was shalom—a supernatural wholeness that encompassed favor, mercy, safety, joy, and prosperity. And it carried weight. It shifted atmospheres. It caused people to notice, to hunger, to desire more. That presence was tangible. You carry that same peace.

When Jesus sent out His disciples, He gave them clear, practical instructions: Heal the sick, cast out demons… But there was something else—something often overlooked yet incredibly powerful. He told them:

“Let your peace rest on the home you enter.”

This wasn’t a casual gesture.

You are more important than you realize. When you enter situations, God’s presence enters with you. Even when it's not apparent to you, your peace announces His reality in places that need Him most.

Blessing Through Association

Throughout Scripture, we see this dynamic repeatedly: that others are blessed because of the presence of God’s people.

Think of Jacob and Laban. Though Laban was deceitful and exploitative, even he had to confess,

"The Lord has blessed me because of you."

Jacob didn’t have to fight for recognition. The results were evident.

Look at Joseph in Potiphar’s house, or later in prison. Even in unjust and uncomfortable circumstances, the people around him became beneficiaries of divine favor simply because Joseph was there. The blessing on him overflowed.

This isn’t just a nice story – it’s Kingdom design. When you belong to God, your presence carries blessing. Even when you feel overlooked or underappreciated, God’s shalom flowing through you shifts atmospheres and influences outcomes. Those around you may not know what it is - but they recognize Him through you.

And your impact is more profound than you realize.

A Practice of Kingdom People

Years ago, we made a simple decision: to pray for everyone we did business with. Clients, partner firms, attorneys—believers or not—it didn't matter. Our prayer was simple:

"Lord, bless them for our sake. Let Your favor touch them because they’re in relationship with us."

We didn't need to explain it. Like Abimelech, who approached Isaac after conflict and said, "It is clear God is with you in all that you do. Let’s make peace."—people recognized it. It was undeniable.

This is how the Kingdom advances, not through striving, but through presence. Through the peace and blessing we carry into every room, relationship, and assignment. You might not realize it, but others feel it. Your peace becomes a silent revelation that God is near.

Even in Captivity

The most striking example comes from Jeremiah 29. Before the promise of “I know the plans I have for you...” God gave an unusual instruction to His people living in captivity:

“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” (Jeremiah 29:7)

Even in exile, God called them to pray for the blessing of those around them. Because in their prosperity, His people would prosper. Because that’s the power of presence.

Wherever God places you, you are there for purpose. You are more important than you realize, and your peace is revealing God's presence to those who never expected to encounter Him simply because you are there.

This Is Our Role

As sons and daughters of the Kingdom, our presence is meant to release something—tangible evidence of God’s reality. Whether in business, school, difficult relationships, or even unjust situations, we are carriers of peace, blessings, and prosperity.

Like Joseph working for the good of Egypt, our posture isn’t just survival—it’s influence. It’s advancement. It’s stability in chaos. Hope where there’s despair and prosperity where there is lack. You are releasing the fragrance of God’s presence wherever you stand.

The Challenge: Who Will Be Blessed Because of You?

Make it your practice. Make it intentional.

Ask God to bless them for your sake. Not because they’ve earned it, but because you carry the Kingdom. Because your presence there is not accidental—it’s strategic.

Let peace rest on them. Let favor follow them.

And as you do, expect atmospheres to shift, opportunities to open, and people to take notice—because the power of presence is undeniable.

Because the truth is: your impact is far more profound than you realize.
