A few weeks ago, I had a prophetic message titled “The Double Portion Anointing.” I wrote about how Elijah trained and mentored Elisha, up until the time the Lord took him up. Elijah asked Elisha what he wants from him when he departs. He replied: “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” So, he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.” The Lord is about to release a greater anointing on many of us in this day. There are those who paid the price, passed the tests, kept their hearts pure, and followed closely after the Lord.
Recap: One day as Elijah and Elisha were talking, a chariot of fire suddenly appeared with horses of fire and separated the two of them. Elisha cried out “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. As he went up, he dropped his mantle down to Elisha. Elisha picked up the mantle which was promised to him. This anointing gave Elisha the ability to continue Elijah's work with even greater power and authority. Our generation is going to pick up the mantle of those who passed before us. Their ceiling will be our floor.
The first thing that Elisha did was take the mantle to the Jordan River. As he stood before the Jordan River with the mantle of his predecessor, he struck the water with it. He then yelled out: "Where is the LORD God of Elijah?" The waters of the Jordan miraculously parted, allowing Elisha to cross over on dry land. The company of the prophets from Jericho who were watching, said, “The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” There will also be schools of prophets in the days to come. Believers will be trained to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. They will teach the same prophetic protocols and walk in the same power of the prophets of old.
The “spirit of Elijah” is symbolic for those of us who are clothed with a prophetic mantle. The passing of the mantle is also allegoric of the father's mantle being passed to the son. Just as Elisha followed Elijah closely and would not leave his side for a moment, the Lord is raising up mentors who walk as Jesus walked and are anointed to disciple others in spiritual realities. Elisha received that mantle that he was desperately longing for. It was a “double portion” anointing of Elijah’s mantle.
But the word of God says in John 3:34 that we now have the anointing “without measure” In John 14:12, Jesus said that we would do even greater works than He did, because we are now filled with the Holy Spirit. There are so many references to the “spirit of Elijah” all throughout the bible, but what does the spirit of Elijah mean to us in this day and age? The spirit of Elijah is going to come upon many believers in this generation. The Lord is about to demonstrate His power in a magnificent way in the days ahead.
We are going to experience more supernatural encounters in this day, which will cause men and women to acknowledge His deity. This is the day of unnatural occurrences, and many people will begin to leave their religious traditions and follow after truth. The Lord will provide for us supernaturally and He will lead us to fresh water when the river dries up. There is a new breed arising who will also learn how to move with the Holy Spirit.
The Lord says; “Do not fear or be intimidated by the prophets of Baal, as their plans will not succeed. I am El Shaddai and I will show Myself strong on your behalf. When you speak, it will not be with persuasive words or mortal reasoning of mere men, but in demonstration and power with signs following. The time has come for My glory to be revealed in this nation. I will show Myself strong in times of chaos.
I will raise up those who will know how to call down fire from heaven to destroy the idolatry of the enemy. I will train them how to thwart the strategies of the kingdom of darkness and cancel their assignments. They will dismantle his works of destruction by their authority from Me, and the words of their mouths. I will teach them how to walk in divine wisdom, release revelation and have keen discernment.
The sword of My Word will be in their mouths because they are unwavering in their faith and their strength is in Me. Supernatural encounters and signs will follow those who believe, and many shall be used mightily in this season. Know your identity and be confident of who you serve, and You will experience My glory released in an unprecedented way in this season, says the Lord.”
2 Kings 2:14 Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the LORD God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.
John 14:12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father”
John 3:34 (TPT) “The One whom God has sent to represent him will speak the words of God, because God has poured out upon him the fullness of the Holy Spirit without limitation.”
